that really sux...i get 315-360 per tank before i fill up...and even after i fill up, theres about 2-4 gallons left...i have a pop charger, 3" catback, and all my maintainence done...oh yeah, those figures are with an O2 sensor that doesnt give a reading...its totally out...so ill look forward to being in the 400 club after i replace that....

but back to you...yours sux a lot...id say do all your basic maintainence such as wires, plugs, cap and rotor, air filter, fuel filter, etc...if its still the same, you might wanna look at timing, faulty fuel pump, or injectors...

27mpg...average. $20 at 2.69per gallon...7.4 gallons...just around 200miles per half tank. (do the math, I am weird about filling half everyweek since that is what is needed and aids in keeping the deadweight down to a minumum for me)

New O2 sensor, cap and rotor are yearly. I replace these every 3 months...new air/fuel/oil filters, I replace these every 6 months...new plugs (ngk platinum) and flush the radiator, calipers are good and brake pads are replaced every 4 months (autozone warranty for their best brakes and about an hour of work). This is on the daily driver S14, with just a 3in. catback, removed resonator on the intake box, a religiously cleaned TB and MAFs, still have awesome compression as well. Also maintain consistent speeds (ocassionally burst when entering the highway), use the AC on the highway, always wash and wax the car weekly, and regularly clean the engine bay the keep trapped heat down to a minimum and let the block do what it was designed to do as far as the exterior was designed to do. Tire levels are perfect, and have nothing extra in the car. I do all this because it is my work car and deserves at least that since if not for it, I would not have a job.

On another note, I was getting a miniscule increase at around .25 to .5 mpg increase when removing the passenger seat, spare tire and jack, and sub box consistently (total weight of around 130lbs), but didn't see any point at the expense of piece of mind and enhanced tunes.

I am RELIGIOUSLY getting 27-29 miles to the tank, mixed city/highway driving, I NEVER make it to the bottom of a tank though, I find myself never having put more than 9 or so gallons of gas in my car at a time... And I only fill up once weekly as long as I don't go out of town somewhere.

On my 800+ mile drive home, I was getting 28-30 mpg and was ecstatic since its the best mpg Ive had out of all the cars Ive owned (this is #7). But then, my mpg around the city has t3h sUx0rz and Im pissed, barely 20 mpg. Ive changed the cap/rotor/plugs/wires/fuel filter/mobil 1 syn, 3" cbe, rotated tires and replaced all the brake system except for the brake cylinder. My last thing to check is the cat and o2 senor, hopefully these being replaced with a straight pipe will solve my horrible city mpg.

bad o2, bad plugs, running rich, cap and rotor, cat, intake, etc.
i get around 25mpg on my sr20 lol. 420 miles to a full 17 gallon tank.

btw, when does the "low gas" light turn on? i've had my needle like beyond the last E line. maybe 1/8 an inch from that last line and still no light. is my light out or the reserve is really that high?

well, ive seen the light once since ive had the car...heh...its funny because i saw it on the way to work so i thought to myself i have a couple of gals left...then when i went back home it didnt come on...but when i pumped that day i only had a little over two gals...the light should have turned on with two gals in the tank...i think my light went out because the floating mechanism works fine...i was meaning to tear out the cluster and replace all the bulbs with colored ones anyway...

I see my light from time to time, but it's got to be really really really low, and then I can still drive at least 20 miles on what's left. I've never run out of gas, but once I did pump 14.xxx gallons of gas (I'm pretty sure it's a 15 gallon tank).

Also, my check engine light came on at about 82000 miles. I replaced all the common stuff, all the sensors and relays and whatnot and finally I just took it to the dealer and they replaced an evap solenoid and the light went away.

Funny thing is I tried to be smart and pull the code and the code wasn't in the book (the dealer actually pulled the same code and had no idea either). Pull your code and see why your light is on, maybe you'll get lucky and pull a code that is in the book?

how do u clean the engine bay, i thought u couldnt hose it down cuz water would get into the distributer cap and screw with other electrical senors..care to explain what exactly it is you clean?

ps: i pulled code 34 (i think) so my egr valve is screwing my gas milage over too.

PhoebusApollo: that's funny. same thing happens to me. The needle would be like beyond E and when if ill up; he car would take around 14-15 gallons. The FSM says the gas tank is about 17.4 (s14) gallons.

OdessaS13: I used simple green or purple power to clean my engine bay. Clean when engine is warm tho. Put a bag around the intake (if aftermarket) and maybe the Dizzy. wet engine bay, spray with cleaner, scrub, spray more, wait, rinse. I then dry certin area of the engine (intake manifold) with air from the air compressor.

dont go by miles per tank...there are diff. size tanks in diff. years...early s14's only had 16 gal, kouki's had 17.2gal...i'd get almost 400 mi/tank if i were to run it dry(i have a zenki), but it's not good to go below 1/4 tank...

I have a Kouki, didn't know my tank was 17.2 gallons! I'm not taking it even close to the edge then... I'll have to see just how many gallons I can get in there (my fuel pump needs to be replaced anyway).

I wouldn't use simple green to clean your engine, no offense, but I hate that stuff. I tried to clean my wheels with it once and it permanently stained my wheels and etched the surface! Just buy some engine degreaser from Pep Boys (it comes in a silver aerosol can). That stuff really shines up your valve cover and makes your hoses glossy! Cause glossy hoses is where it's at!

I usually get about 28 mpg...about 350 miles per fill-up with maybe 2-3 gallons left in the tank. When I get to half tank, I usually have gone 200 miles or so. (is anyone's gauges like this too?)
Monday morning to Friday night I am in crawling traffic. I have an SAFC but I didn't splice into the MAF signal. Just using it to monitor rpm and throttle %. In traffic I don't go above 30% throttle or 3.5k rpm's..(at least try to).

wow..... read a auto book or something..

ill explain it as easy as i can..

the rotor is what is connected to the part of the distributor and spins... while it spins it will make contact on 4 points on the cap (depending on # of cylinders) for the or each cylinder. When it makes contact to the points it will sent a current through the wire to your spark plug so it will fire... If ur cap and rotor are old, the contact points could be corroded or even worse and u will not get as strong of a spark to each cylinder, meaning incomplete combustion, meaning even less effecient motor running, which results in bad gas milage or a motor that will not run right.

Has anyone ever ran out of gas then filled up? Just asking because I've been low on gas and the most I've ever been able to put in my car was like 15.5 gallons at the most. That's nowhere near the claimed 17.2!
