SER vs. 350Z VQ35

Ok my question is whats the diffs between the VQ35 in the Altima SER compared to the 350Z. Well besides the obvious front wheel drive. Reason being is I have a chance of getting an Altima SER motor relativly cheap. I thought it would be a cool swap into my S14. Im already aware of the difficulty factor of the swap. I also heard that someone makes a kit for a T56 trans to a VQ35, is this true? Thanks for the help guys.

are you trying to put a FWD engine in your S14? Might I suggest another motor with just as much, if not more potential? The RB26 perhaps?

Thought about the RB26. Its more expensive, well compared to what I can get this VQ35 motor for. Also the RB226 is older. Correct me if Im wrong but wont the VQ35 from the Altima SER bolt up to any other 350Z or rear wheel drive trans with the same bolt pattern on the bell housing. Thats why I was wondering about the T56 kit for the 350Z I heard about. I need to get a rear wheel drive trans anyway and I heard the 350Z trans is rubbish.

You want to mount a FWD engine into a RWD car, the engines around mounted differently and will not work from one to the other.....But then again, I guess anything is possible with enough money

I don't think your looking at the overall cost involved with such a project. Your looking at the initial cost...which is getting the motor....but forgetting the cost of fabbing mounts, wiring and etc. Lets not forget downtime....so yea...in the end the RB26 would be a better choice.

Someone on FA is doing a VQ swap, don't know what his progress is right now. But I would imagine this swap to be difficult and require alot of custom work ("one-off" bits). Besides, the intake manifold and TB might be positioned differently on the VQ from a 350Z compared to one in a Altima SER (if you were to rotate the motor).

Im not worried about the fabrication part, mounts, wiring etc. And the car is tottaly striped to have a rolcage in so Im not worried about down time. We have our own mill, lathe, tig welders, mig welders, plasma cutter, tubing bender, etc . We built full race dragsters and restored old hot rods. The work should not be a problem. I was just wondering what the differences in the motor are. If the bell housing pattern is the same as the 350Z. I like to be different to, not follow the crowd. I guess thats why I wanna do it too. You guys are pretty smart. I dont know too much about the different Nissan motors, thats why Im asking. Thanks for your help so far. Does anyone know about the VQ35 motors?

I looked at his write up. I take it all the VQ motors have the same bellhousing pattern then. Front wheel or rear wheel drive. Thanks for the help.
