Name brand only parts for your car?

Whats everyone take on parts for your car. Do you buy only top end brand parts for your car or non-big name brand parts?

A prime example, there was a thread on the S2ki.com msg boards about coilovers. Now everyone was naming top end brands, Tein RS, KW, mugen, Amuse, etc... Now I mentioned megan racing coilovers (because I have them on my S) and everyone starts to rip on them. I'm not saying megan's are the best in the world, nor isn't the type of coilovers that are for professional drivers that track their car weekend by weekend. But the guy that wanted someone just to lower his car and not totallly ruin his handling. And I believe Megan's offer a great value of money, quality, and handling to the S. So far I haven't seen any 240's with broken Megans or anything that would put the megans into a awful company list.

Everyone's statement was this "You bought a 30,000 and your putting cheap parts to it..." thats all i hear. I'm sorry but I don't see the worth of paying for a $3000 intake for 5extra hp... More power for you if you bought it.

So, name brand parts? or non- name brand parts that can turn into a good product?

Please, no dumbass post, or i'll get the mod's to delete your posts.

I wouldn't knock on Megan coilovers like those people on that forum. I basically buy a part that has good solid feedback, regardless of the company who makes it. But I will say that there are some knock-offs out there I would not suggest, simply because they can't match the quality assurance you get from a brand name company (or shops like SPLparts).

My contribution to your thread:
1. I buy quality parts that have decent pricing.
a. SPL subframe spacers - I consider that name brand on my list
b. PowerTrix Toe + RUCA gen 2 - not TEIN, Cusco, etc. but good quality for the price
c. SSA catback (on both S13 and S14) - Brand name? Not really, but definitely good quality and unbeatable price.

In summary, I am a cheap ass . I can't afford high end products now. In the near future I will be able to, but I don't think the marginal benefits are greater than the marginal costs anyway - I make rational decisions .

i'll get good shit if it's important to be good, like coilovers, steering wheel, seats, gauges, cams, tires. etc

i'll get knock offs if it doesn't really matter, like hood pins, body kit (if you're gonna ruin it, might as well get a cheap one. this doesn't necessarily work for road racing where the chances of crashing are way lower than drifting).

free shit's always good, unless it's total crap. i like my free swoosh gauges, but i dunno if i'd take free sunpro gauges...

i buy parts that have good design.

for suspension, i would've picked up something with a better design than those megan racing you have.
Tanabe Sustec pro SS would've been my choice.
i've never seen a 3k dollar intake lol. ARC makes very nice intakes, but not worth my money. apexi power intake would've been my choice. name brand? i dunno.

btw, what spring rate do you have on your s2k?
