What do you guys think of 944's

I've always like these cars and would like to pick on eup to build a track car in a few years. You can pick up a 944 Turbo for like $4000 nowadays maybe less. I don't know a ton about them though. Check this one out. Pretty sweet!

Reminds me of a fc. Maybe you can find one cheap but parts for older euro cars cost a lot and are freaking hard to find. I have an audi quattro and its a bitch fixing even the simplest things. That car you posted is teh sex.

The 944 was a nice car but cost and availability of parts for that car is not cheap at all. It was one of the first front engined Porsches made.

High mileage 944s are known to have many problems, throw in the cost of parts and labor - it would not be a cheap car to maintain.

944s are hot, I've been pining for one of those for a few years. As soon as the 240 is running that's my next car. The lines on that car are sexy as hell.

They sell drop in kits for the LS1. That's been my plan for awhile if I find one for a good price in decent shape.

I had a 944 before I got into 240's. 944's are too expensive to maintain. Be prepared to pay $700 for a clutch job. The tranny is located in the rear and connected to the motor via torque tube ala c5/c6 corvette. It has to be dropped to access the clutch. God forbid anything electrical goes wrong.

The reason I got into the 240sx is because it's basically a japanese 944. Read: japanese reliability and MUCH cheaper to keep.

I always loved the 944 as a kid, I think its a great car. But of course it is a porche, so I do figure the upkeep on the car is going to be a little pricey. Perhaps a good analogy would be that a 944 is like a hot, yet high maintainance girlfriend. You have to think about if the relationship is worth it.

If it weren't for the expensive maintenance, I'd be driving a 944 instead of a 240SX.

They have the engine in the wrong place and are water-cooled. Other than that, I'd rock a 951 from here to San Diego, maybe to San Francisco, but certainly not San Juan.

I have no idea what that meant. Horsepower is easy to make, the chassis is tried-and-true and there's nothing like a 951 on some 17x9s to ignite the Euro fire in my heart.

Any of them before 84.5 are crap. That came from a porsche tech.

Other than that I love 944's. But yes anything with the porsche name on it will be expensive to maintain. A friend of mine's dad has a 914, and the wiper motor was like $600 or something stupid like that to replace it.

If you do you own work on cars, you will come to know hitler's revenge. Something about all german cars being a bitch to work on.

Hahhaha that's great man! My daily driver at the moment is a 1988 924 S, I wanted the 944 S but I couldn't find one in time plus I got a rockin' deal on the 924 S, let's just say the miles on my car are 65K at the moment.

Anything 84 and below sucks because the motors are manufactured by Audi, after 84-85 Porsche started manuacturing the motors.

If I could find a 944 Turbo I would buy it!

Ohhhhhhhh and an oil pan gasket is running me $232 from the Porsche dealer and I have a wholesale account

I had one back in the days, its a bitch to work on. Expensive on parts and labor. I had to change the water pump, cost mega bucks. If the water pump breaks you have to watch out for the timing belt cause the water can deteriate it and screw your whole engine. Next to that, recomendation to change the damn timing belt was every 20,000 to 30,000 miles. That was from the guys at PartsHaven in Hayward. I got most of my used parts or new from them. If you don't like to pay, I stay away.

but the plus side, very fun car to drive. Nice torque, nice crisp steering feeling, weird rear suspension that uses rods instead of springs, well balance vechicle.
