paypal payment

I am selling $3000 worth of parts in my Toyota forum and there is one guy said he will take it. However, his payment method is going to be Paypal because he doesn’t has cash. He is quite local (Cerritos) to me and he will come over to pick up parts. My question is that how can I prevent been scam from the paypal payment method. From what I understand is that if he asks the credit card to charge backing the money, I am screwed. Is there a way to protect myself?

Thanks

if he can get money into paypal, he should be able to withdraw it to his bank and get cash. tell him to do that. it will take a few days to make that transaction, but worth it for $3000 in my opinion.

you can use credit card on paypal, it is cheaper than advancing cash from credit card. I wish i could just get cash tho, less head ache.

I agree with this, if he is picking up the parts, i see no reason for him to pay on paypal. Tell him to get you cash or something from the bank! I think thats the better route. If he is charging it on his CC, then he can do cash advances on it, and he can just deal with that higher interest on that imo. I dont trust paypal for such a large sums of money

Paypal has a seller protection program you can qualify for which protects you agais chargebacks, you have to meet a few requirements. But you should be able to, just research it on paypals site and be careufl. I got fucker over $350 because ups lost the package and the guy did a chargeback and won the dispute. I would also wait and see if he can get cash, or at least writie a check that you can wait to clear.

Tell him that you have to wait until the funds clear before you'll hand over the parts. Once you receive the payment, transfer it directly into your bank account. I should take 3-4 days for the transfer to be completed. Once the funds are in your bank account you should be good. IIRC, they can only do a chargeback if the funds are still sitting in your Paypal account.

^^^ Thanks for inputs

he said he will make full payment by Feb 4th and come to pick up parts at Feb 12th. So i will be pretty much at the safe side? I could just withdraw the money in the paypal and he will not able to do chargeback from the credit card?

thanks

have him sign on picking up parts and the value, print out his payment and have him sign on it PICKED UP ( you can also take down his license number etc )

with that much money you better take extra steps to save your self

because he can simply paypal you the money then come and pick all the parts parts then go to paypal saying you never shipped him his parts

happened to me the other way around
some scammer i bought exhaust from shipped me a cheap air filter and used the tracking number to proof he shipped my exhaust and paypal didnt wanna help me after that ( but i owned them through my credit card )
