Few questions on turbo setup
Hey I got a couple of questions about a temporary Ka-t setup that i'm planning on doing...
I am going to get a t3/t4 turbo with with probably 550cc injectors, z32 maf, walbro fuel pump, FMIC, bov, etc... and I was wondering would I have to get a specially tuned ecu from JWT or Enthalpy or can I just go to a performance shop that does tuning to get my stock one tuned... aslo I was wondering is a SAFC was easier to work with or a greddy e-manage.... This is going to be a temporary setup untill I can save up more money, so I was wondering which would be the better choice... and also would I need a fpr with this? any help would be appreciated... on a side note...where is the search button on this forum? EDIT: found the search button, I had to go activate my account from email before it showed up but it was letting me login without activating the account.... o well... |

You do not need to get a JWT or Enthalpy ECU. But you do need a tuning solution. I'm not sure where you would take the car to get the ECU tuned locally, but if you know of a shop that will work...then it jsut comes down to wether the shop knows what they are doing.
S-AFC is by far easier to tune than an E-manage. If you get a tuned ECU you should not need a SAFC. I would highly recommend enthalpy. JWT is tuned very conservatively. You never NEED a FPR. They are helpful though, especially with a ROM tune as you can use them to dial in the desired AFR if the tune is slightly off. You should not be doing anything fuel related without a wideband O2. |

only problem is SAFC can't be used for that large of injectors.... IIRC they can only correct for up to 50% of injector size the ecu is tuned for (thus on stock ecu you can only correct for up to 405cc injectors).
And yes, I have JWT ecu for my KA-T and when running on anything but full boost the car feels like putting the car in 5th gear at 50 mph and flooring it (its rich lol). So I got a SAFC on top of that and will be leaning it out for the lower rpms.

Thanks for the help...
As for the shop, I got this from their website... "We offer a wide variety of tuning services for any type of car. From our in house chipping of ECUs to full out race gas tuning, we can do it all."... so i'm thinking they can do it... and I've heard many good things about them so I trust them... and I have read that any place tuning my ECU should have a wideband 02... If not, I will be sure to get one... Know a place where I can get one from? I got one more question... I wouldn't need a MSD BTM or mess with timing for timing retard if I got my ECU tuned right? i'm like pretty sure that you dont, just trying to confirm it.... |
