clutch or tranny???

i just bought a 92 hatch 3 days ago and last night when i would roll to a red light that turned green and tried to put it into second, it was kind of hard. this morning i went to drive the car and the car started clutch down, but would not go into gear. i shut the car off and put it into first and started it, it started idling pretty rough. i took off and all the gears were really rough to go into and one time i couldnt even go into 4th, it buzzed. this is the first manual car i have owned and ive only owned 240s for like the passed few months so i dont know much about them. any help is appreciated. thanks mike

jack the car up and put on stands. go under ur car and look for the clutch slave. theres a screw in there, use a bleeder wrench to open it up while someone pumps/holds on the clutch pedal

slave has a rubber line that goes to the hardline. Its connected to the tranny by two bolts.

if its not the clutch it self it may be your pilot/throw out bearing. or an other thing it may be is your flywheel is slipping and may need to be replaced.

that buzzing is your pilot/ or throw out bearing. it does that because its dried up and has no kind of lube on it. so check both your pilot bearing and your throw out bearing, and your flywheel. it sounds like your clutch isnt engaging completely

another thing you can try is when you have it apart.. spray all your bearings with WD40 or some Graffite. and that may stop it for a while . also what kind of gear oil do you have in there

if bleeding the clutch doesnt work, and you decide to check the TO/pilot bearings, you might as well replace those and the clutch while your there, its not that expensive to get the parts.

about 150 for a clutch. Do it yourself and use a FSM for torque specs

Not your tranny

Similar thing happened to me

Cept I couldn't put into ANY gear when car was on

Opened it up and clutch disk springs made a run for the border

It's probably clutch disk

Bleed it first, if that don't work then

Just replace clutch and call it a day

Life isn't over

You live in Covina/Socal too, so getting an OEM replacement is dirt cheap, labor is dirt cheap too

got a problem. im bleeding the clutch off of the slave and i got it all out, then i filled it back up and pumped the clutch with the bleeder closed and noting happened, so i cracked the bleeder a little bit and kept pumping, now the fluid is going straight through all the lines and out the bleeder but i still have no hydraulic pressure in the clutch it just sticks to the floor.

Hello if you opened the bleeder & then kept pumping you may have introduced air back into the system???? Only pump pedal with bleeder closed. Anyhow sounds like it time for a clutch job.

its going to take a while to get back pressure in the pedal if there is that much air in the line. pump the pedal and hold it down, then open the valve and close it again. repeat. repeat. repeat. pressure will build up slowly. if you do end up having to do clutch, DO NOT FORGET TO REPLACE PILOT BEARING.

thats what im thinking because the pedal will sink just a little bit when its bled but will not build up its just like starting fresh every time, how much do those run?

Okay wait....you completely removed all the fluid in the M/C and then proceeded to refill and wondered why you had no pedal return? You just completely filled the system with air!!! I'm sure this car is stock which means you still have the clutch dampener installed remove it with this:

http://www.nostreetracing.org/forums/article.php?a=11

Missing pics but you should be able to follow the instructions.

Just get rid of the box and re-bleed. Really it's the same as doing a brake bleed:

1. pumpx3....hold pedal
2. Release bleeder screw for 3 seconds...retighten
3. repeat
4. re-fill resevior as needed....DO NOT aloow the level to go below the resevior!!
