just need some opinions. I am in the market for a short shifter and was looking at the obx and B&m shifters. I know that they are relatively the same designs but the B&M is so much more. Is it worth spending the extra money for B&M or should jsut get the obx. THanks

i would shell out the more bucks and get B&M..from wat i read using the SEARCH..ppl say B&M is worth it..u pay more..but u know its never gonna break in half and have u leaving the car w/ a shifter in ur hand..but from wat i hear..the new gen OBX shifter solved that problem..but hey..im still scared of that problem..so id go with the B&M..the C's is the same as OBX..Pilot too..so..u can get the Cs..same design..but better name

I hear the B&M makes a lot of noise.. but is the most solid, shortest shifter out there. It replaces the whole shifter mount.. where as the OBX, etc.. only replace the shifter.

I have the new OBX. it's pretty nice. I plan to upgrade one day to the C's or B&M. The OBX is a GREAT peice for the price.

FAQ-time, folks (ignore if you want to):

Here's the deal. I'm tired of the weird stories and myths about the OBX and the B&M. First off, the OBX doesn't snap (like the cheapie B&M for Civics...just a long rod). The OBX is two piece. The lower part actually goes into the tranny. The upper part slides over, and has a bunch of insulating rubber in it. This rubber does two things. Makes it quiet. But makes it hard to attach the two pieces. A bunch of window urethane will stick them together for good. I didn't use enough, so mine came loose again. But it WAS stuck for a while. Point is, unless yours comes loose AND you pull up while shifting (some do...don't know why), it will never "come apart in your hand".

About the B&M. The newly revised model is out. I wish I had a picture. The little machined part that fits over the shifter that the secondary Nissan rubber boot ties to has been revised. That's what was making the noise. It's now rubber coated, and heavy. I'm installing it this weekend, and will have further info about the noise situation. However, I anticipate it being very quiet. I spoke with people at B&M before ordering it. Not only were they aware of the noise problem, they assured me that it had been rectified.

So, there you have it. In my view, there is no "choice" between the OBX and the B&M. You either go budget and get the OBX and enjoy the ride. Or you drop close to 3 bills, and get the satisfaction of knowing that you have the highest-quality, shortest-throw shifter you can possibly buy for your Nissan. And yes, folks, it's better than the C's and the Nismo ones. Trust me. I've looked. If you REALLY want to spend the same amount as the B&M and get a C's just for it's JDM-ness, go right ahead. But then I'll let you shift my tranny and you'll be sad.

Someone please archive this. I'm tired of reading about the debate all the time.

Cliff's notes: OBX is great on the cheap . B&M is the king of all shifters . Buy it knowing that there is no upgrade.

I got an obx for 1 week, and there are 2 c-plates which attach to a circular part to your car. You cannot tighten too much or you will not be able to shift at all. I tried to tighten as much as possible, but eventually one of the plates came loose and fell off when I am driving.. (1 week only!&#33

Gears became hard to shift after.

I have bad experience with obx. I wished I did not buy it.

The B&M one I have now is not a cheapo one like the obx.

It feels much better and you will not need to worry about parts falling off.

Definitly worth it if you want a short shifter... but cost 2x OBX...

VG1~ Eric, please make sure you post back about the Noise.. I really like the b&m, and the noise part is what kept me from buying it.

How much have people been paying for the OBX shifter because I think the price went up a little.

If anyone wants the OBX one I can get it now. The B&M I should be able to get it for you guys soon.

My friend just put in a B&M, shift is sooo short, feels like an S2000 shifter. But it is noisy in the torque curve, chattery bugger.

I own the obx short shifter purchased from (pdm-racing.com) with no problems for months... It gives a more natural feel when shifting...

Altho I sat in a car at the convention which had the B&M shortshifter and was very surprised with how short the throws were... Very short...

This decision is your own... but rests mainly upon your budget. the obx shifter isn't too expensive where the B&M is like twice the price.

hmm, that's an interesting design on the C's, I wonder how well it actually works.

It looks like the regular c's short shifter to me...just with adjustable stuff up top to fit your personal preference to height and angle. Overpriced IMO but cool concept.

Well, I got the B&M in and some fresh Amsoil Series 2000 75w90 gear oil. Let me just say this...the shifting is so short I don't even have to move my arm. I can do the whole thing by just flicking my fingers. It's sick. BUT, the shift action is MUCH heavier than stock or the OBX. And the side to side motion is very firm. I think it would be impossible to miss 3rd with this shifter. 1st and 2nd are harder to find than 3rd. I love it.

Only bad part: the install. Getting those two front-most bolts removed and replaced is a BIATCH. The OBX is a sinch in comparison.

About the noise: what noise? I hear nothing. Perhaps it's because I have an SR and an N1 dual exhaust, but I hear no buzzing or whatever. Does this happen at like 120 or something? So in my view, the buzzing has been fixed with the new shifters.

Any questions?

Eric
