im planning on turboing my KA this summer and my friend with a 1.8t passat says that at least for his car, synthetic oil is a must. ( becuase of the turbo)

the question is: does this same concern exist for the ka ( with a turbonetics turbo from the jgs kit) and how bad will it / could it be for the motor? (as far as blow by on piston rings and other seals)

if you have concerns that your engine will produce blow by from synthetic oil alone then you probably shouldnt be turboing without a rebuild. syn oil as alot thinner than conventional motor oil, i bet with turbo and syn you'll have some blow by. to anwser your question syn oil isnt bad for your piston rings or for anything else for that matter. just try it if you see blow by run it till and blows and build one ka's are cheap man

the thing is i have a 75k mile ka and if i could get at least one season out of it id be happy, i dont really have the money to turbo and rebuild it at the same time.

if i switched to synthetic and had a lot of blow by would any permanent damage be done?

would i be able to switch back to dino oil w/o problems?

moreover is synthetic required for a turbo setup?

Do NOT switch to synthetic on a high mile engine. Just... Don't... Do it.
