Knock Sensor

So I need to wire up my ca18dets knock sensor, I've pulled the sheild wiring from my ka and i'm going to use that, the question is can I just splice the actual wire that runs to the ecu, insulation it and ground the wiring thats on the outside of the insulation? Idk if that half a inch of non shielded wiring is going to fuck w/ the sensor or not
