I found a '91 240SX 5-spd fully loaded with SUPER HICAS, etc.. with 170K km for CDN$3500. However the owner said the car needed new front struts and mounts

So i went searching on the 'net for struts, and all of them are for 240SX withOUT super hicas. None of them are for HICAS! Why is that?? Is HICAS a bad thing?

a car with HICAS is much easier to drive, and control out of the corners, but if you plan on having control of the attitude of the tail its better to not have HICAS. however, with the HICAS car you'll have a VLSD...if you decide dyou did want to do some sort of drifting (on track of course!) you could always try and get a tomei HICAS lock set.

its standard in japan on K's silvias, on euro spec 200sx's, as well as canadian SE's for s13's. i dont know about the other generations though.

all that active suspension crap is basically just technical speak for saying that it slightly adjusts the wheel attitude to increase cornering performance...supposedly it just induces understeer when you come out of corners though, just to make the car more controllable for the average driver who has no concept of countersteering and whatnot

HICAs sucks. At least on Zs.

that's why you'll hear alot of people talk about why Z's are so easily to drive compared to other sportscars. HICAS is fine an dandy, but if you really wantcontrol of your car, dont get it, or get HICAS locks

Thanks for the reply guys! All Canadian models come with VLSD, and since I'm in Canada (Toronto) I will get VLSD!

So I guess HICAS is not that worth it? I was searching for all 240sx that had HICAS, but if its not important, then I'd rather not waste time.

Secondly, since HICAS is not as important, should I go for a '91-'93 Fastback or a '94+ 240SX coupe??

Which one is better if the price difference is a few thousand dollars? Both will be 5-spd with VLSD. The 95+ may have leather in it.

So what you're saying is that all models with HICAS have a LSD? I do have a Canadian model.
What did you mean you can't find struts for a 91 with hicas? Many companies make them, KYB, Toico (spelling?), Koni. I haven't had any problems.

hmm, didnt know that it was ALL canadian models having a VLSD...yeah, in that case, get one without it. it'll save you money, and you'll like the handling more anyways. suggest driving one of each though through some corners and see how you like it.

on getting an s13 or s14, its pretty much a matter of syour taste in style. the s13 fastback will handle somewhat better, but not all that much better...its just what you wanna have your car look like, mechanically theres not that many differences, unelss you plan on turbocharging the KA engine, in which case, get the 95+
