Can someone please identify this, I found it in my oil pan
As the title states I found this in my oil pan after removing it today.
![]() the red material feels like rubber, perhaps this was a sensor? I'm surprised my motor hasn't seized while this part went through it. Oh and this broken piece is aluminum because my magnet wasn't able to pick it up. ![]() I have no idea wtf this is, but its metal and I found it in the oil strainer/pick up, I'm glad this piece didn't go through the oil pump. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

1st is an evil clown face. I don't know of any moving parts that look like that at all....it could be the end of a bolt hole near the bottom of the block which would explain why there is atv gasket material in the hole?!?
2nd is def a shim from the rocker arms not a guide.

Yes, the 2nd piece is a shim. No idea what that first one is...
I had the EXACT problem as you on my SR. There were 2 shims in the oil pan and a hole in the screen of the oil pick up tube. The shim actually was sucked into the oil pump and cracked a hole into the front cover. Make sure you have oil pressure before starting up your engine! The hole in the front cover was behind the crank pully so i didn't see it until I pulled the crank pully off. my thread is here: http://forums.freshalloy.com/showthread.php?t=160528 |

Yes that is a shim...
notice any valve train noise lately. Or maybe the fact that your engine does not run at all anymore? haha

Actually in my case, there were no shims missing Can you believe that..?!
So whoever had the sr in japan was working on the head and dropped the shims into the engine. Eventually it made it's way down to the oil pan and got sucked up. |

Yeah, very weird.
That is why I always break down all the engines I get and thoroughly inspect them before I swap them in. That is also why I charge 3900 for a RedTop Swap. That is also why I no longer do swaps ![]()

surprisingly the motor still pulls hard. I replaced the strainer/oil pick up and the head doesn't make anymore noise than usual. I do have low oil pressure at start up but its been like this for about a year. I'm currently running an s15 turbo at 9psi.
