Has the price of a barrel gone up? Or is the US Dollar weak?

I'd say both, however there is an upside to all this.

The US can now be an attractive place for tourists and this helps the US exporters.

yes it can, prices have dropped on gas in the past, at least in Florida they did. I mean shit, in about two weeks they dropped liked 40 cents or something before they started going back up

On Guam, all our gas is from the same company, Shell. 76, and Mobil gets their gas from them here on this island. If shell goes up, the next day the other two goes up.

I did not say gas prices can not drop, I say they will not drop as a result of a change in demand.

whenever we fill up the government gets half of that money as taxes and more then half of the rest goes to the company and the little left over goes to the gas station...so..the government is making a lot of money here!

if anyone has a serious problem the only solution is to run your vehicle on some non-gasoline derivative, meaning no vegetable oil either as the oil companies can just start selling that, so pretty much either solar or electric powered vehicles are the only long term answer.

p.s. just as a little history lesson, when the first cars were designed, built and sold, steam was the most popular, followed fairly closely by ELECTRIC with gasoline being a distant third, as people viewed mini explosions powering vehicles to be dangerous, so why can't we have electric cars that aren't tiny as hell 100+ years later......(especially with cool as shit ones like the tesla)

not exactly, the vegetable oil doesnt need to be new, it can be used from a restaurant, oil companies arent gonna sell that now are they?

I read something along the lines of this letter last year. oh and it's already at $4.45 a gallon of 91 octane here in Los Angeles, it's also going to keep going up because our economy is in a recession and inflation is making our dollars less valuable. regardless, i still need to drive my car, and as long as the car runs happy, i'm happy )

on another note, when are we americans going to become smarter and get smaller more efficient gas and diesel cars like they have over in japan and europe? a 600cc van that looks gangster with a few mods, we can't go wrong with that?

If you don't know about the oil industry a big part of it is "Standard Oil"... Rockefeller's old oil company. Read near the bottom of the wikipedia article, and see this company had to break up into smaller ones. Over time, and as Anti-Trust laws weakened... these smaller companies emerged.

I don't want a bunch of poor people driving.

Look how much traffic I have to deal with everyday.
