Welded Dif. Will It Hold? PICS

Just picked up this welded diff. Cracked it open and had a look at the welds. Never ran a welded before, but I know that if the welds aren't good/strong enough it can break and cause problems. Here's a pic...

Do you think these are beefy enough, or should I go over em' again with another bead?

Thanks in advance.

That's kind of a crappy pic, but it looks like a welded diff

It could be better, and it could be a lot worse.

I would worry about it.

If you already have it open and you have a welder why not be safe and throw some extra love at it?!

people learn MACRO you know the little flower thingy on your camera...

but it does look like you could do with a bit stronger weld... is it because of the picture or do you have metal shavings and stuff there by the gears? or is that the fluid making it look like that?

Looks as if its spatter from the weld, never hurts to throw a few beads on there, i would those look small and week, clean the spatter up around the gears and such to, dont want that to get in the bearings and make a whinning noise...

That's primarially the fluid. When I drained it though the fluid was reeeeeally dark, and looked like it was filled with a mild/moderate ammount of metal shavings. As was the magnetic drain plug.

Just looking for some suggestions. I know I've seen pictures of other welded diffs with beads twice this big. Only reason why I ask.

if it has shavings, i think it would be good if you cleaned it out and took it someplace so they sand blasted it to clean up the spatter and all that... but get it welded again first... better safe than sorry...

Thanks for all the input guys.

A buddy of mine has a little flux-core welder. I'm gonna see if he wouldn't mind going over em' again real quick.

i would weld it up some more it that was me. When i had mine welded up i got the whole middle section full of weld, when you look down at my spider gear's you cant see therw them its solid, basically even if my welds break the gears will NEVER be able to spin like they are suppouse to be.

weld some more in there...i busted 2 diffs with welds like that on my KA with just I/H/E lol. its scary as hell when it blows on you cuz you just hear a "CLUNK" and your like "wtf was that?!" then you find out the hard way that you are truely a one wheel wonder when the gear is only turning one axle

Well, little update.

I had my buddy weld it up a some more, but we used a cheap-o fluxcore welder. Slag got everywhere. I tried as best I could to clean it all out, but I'm pretty sure some still got in the bearings. When driving now, it makes a semi-audible whining noise from the diff. It's not noticable with the windows down, but with the windows up and the radio off, you know it's there.

Also, the tire squealing. Holy shit hahaha. I park in a parking garage and I set off a car alarm with the tire squeal haha. I switched to some wider / better quality tires though and the squeal was cut more than in half.

Ran it at my first event ever and man, it's 10 times easier to swing that back end out than with the open.

All in all I'm really happy I did it. The car feels so much more solid. The wheel hop going around corners isn't even that bad, but I've yet to take it out in the rain.

Thats CRAP redo.. like this, dont just cake metal in there awh!

Here is a picture, its done very very well along with a few tricks to make it even stronger.

In fact if you want me to do it... $55 with core or $85 no core, ship included. No drive gear attached.

Funny when i busted my open diff unwelded the drive shaft just spun and made awesome noises... no wheel moved anywhere.
