Extra Stage is eh...okay. Start with Stage 1 since that's where everything starts. It's not one of those anime series where you can pick up from any episode and expect to know the full details.

that's not entirely true Takumi...
cuz third stage explains quite a lot when it gets into it. too bad it was only ~2hrs.........
anyone hear yet??? I was told the new ID series is out!!! called Battle Stage? Any one have confirmation? Here's the site I got it from:

where are you downloading it from?  I try using morpheous but it barely ever works so i just get small clips of scenes.  would love to find a site where i could download all the series piece by piece.

ok now what i dont understand is (and i've been to the initial d websites) about hte 1st stage 2nd stage 3rd stage thing

all of the ones i dl from kazaa are numbered 1-26 is it somethin like ep 1-10 1st stage etc etc?

I watch it in this order.

1st Stage - 1st season (26 episodes)

2nd Stage - 2nd season (13 episodes)

Extra Stage - OAV (original animation video, 2 episodes)

3rd Stage - movie

No, if you just watch the movie, you are STILL missing out on a lot of details and the familiarity with the characters and teams. All they did was recap all the previous races, well most of them and somewhat recap the relationship between Takumi and Natsuki. Then again, this is just my opinion.

Battle Stage/4th Stage - Supposedly a re-animation of the previous two seasons, possibly compressed in half the episodes it took before since the animation studio DOES have a budget to work with. Plus they'll animate new episodes, possibly picking up from where they left off after the movie. Plus there will be new Super Eurobeat songs featured in that season.

Super Eurobeat = those techno-ey songs with lame "Engrish" lyrics that you hear during the show. I could go more in depth with what kind of dancing Super Eurobeat goes with besides it being "driving music", but it'll just sound too silly to you guys.

The whole thing rocks ass. The first two eps are nothing to write home about, but they set the stage for the non car related events in the future (which the first time through is great, the story is good, but after that I just watch for the races) My favorite races and the Final Race against the MR2, the race against the turbo Levin, The final race of stage one against Ryosuke, #### I like every race almost, they all rocked. I got every ep I have off kazaa save 2... And now I download them again to try and get the proper japanese versions... the lanuage is so much nicer that the chinese ones... Plus you actually understand names like 'takumi' rather than the chinese tahkoohoy or whatever they screw it up to.

For the future I heard about them going off and racing on the circuit etc... on thing I never heard though was the true ending of the show, if you ask me it should come down to a battle between Takumi and Bunta... that was my dream of how the show would end... Bunta comes back from retirement and goes on the circuit and it comes down to the two of them. That would be closer for me... oh, and takumi has to get natsuki pregnant or something like that.

Yes Stage 3 (aka movie) is the best, like FN said, the mr2 battle is the best, it got me so freaking pumped, and the Levin Battle was also very good, its all good, but the mr2 battle will always get me pumped, it will live in my heart forever..

Before I left Japan the comic book was up to the point where Bunta decided to get another car and it shows a impreza passing up takumi at Akina.  Also keisuke was racing another FD where the driver was a girl.

That's too bad... 3rd stage is great... extra stage is probably the worst one of all. You can pick up all the eps for under 100 bucks on DVD off ebay... totally recomend it. But yah... the extra stage, if you like that you will love the series, cause that is like all the 'stories' getting furthered, not much racing though.

If memory serves correctly the centerpiece of that show is Mako, Iketani's love interest, and this other guy. Has a lot to do with love story crap, I don't even think Takumi is in the episode for more than 5 minutes if at all. So it is not the "true" initial d feeling of the others. My recomendation, start from ep 1, it is truly worth it, and the series builds throughout... so it is a must to start from the beginning.

i know i still have a couple on cpu (even though i've only watched like half of one so far), but is that dvd everything takumi mentioned w/ english subtitles? it sounds like something i need to check out sometime.
