Question What comes first SR or 240????

Alright, I know my profile says i'm a newbie, but I know alot about 240's and sr20det's.

I want a S13 240sx coupe. I want to change the whole front fascia to look like a JDM silvia. Like if your kneeling down in front of the car, it will look like a silvia. I want to keep the look of a 240 from fenders back.

I have enough money now to get either one, 240 and SR. 240sx's are pretty cheap around here, and no one has a SR swap in my area. I want to know, if it would be a good idea to get a SR first and mod it (cause it will be out of the car and easier to work on like pistons and stuff like that), then get the 240 and drop the already modded engine in it and then tune.

Could you please tell me why or why not it would be a good idea.

Thanks

There is no right or wrong answer tot hat, its just which would you rather do, or what kind of a deal you can find. If you find a killer deal on a car get the car first or vice versa.

you said you wanted to change the front to a silvia and keep the 240sx from the fenders back? isn't the fenders and back already what the silvia is?

Well either time you get the motor it will be out of your car right? It will be much easier to work on out of the car than in. I'd get the car first tho, kinna suck to build a motor then never be able to put it into anything, or have a beas motor, but nothing to get you to work in.

from the fenders back. jdm s13 silvia is rhd. also, little accesories are different like steering wheel, power folding mirrors, manual seat belts, oh **** bars. theres also different rear sticker and emblems. haha. but im just beign a smart ***. basically, there's no 'real' difference except the rhd.

I think this is the 9th time I've seen this post, or variation of this post. The, "I want to buy, going to buy, just bought a 240, what next?" post.

If 240's really aren't that hard to find then do just that, get the motor first, work it over, and then install it when you find the 240 you want. But be warned, coupes in either chassis are pretty hard to find.

I would say get the car first. What if you get the engine, then it sits in your garage and you see a kick @ss deal on a rx-7 or a mr2 or a supra or something like that? Then you are stuck with that engine. If you are anything like me, I had no idea what car I wanted, but I wanted something I could really make very nice. I wanted so many cars.

Ok, I see alot of indesicive replies.

I have driven a 240 coupe, I like everything about it. The stance, the drive, everything. I just don't want to find the wrong one, you know? PLUS, I like that its rear wheel drive. You know, all the powersliding, the drifting, the wheels spinning, IN THE BACK!! You don't see that to often around here. Everyone around here either have DSM's (i.e. Eclipse AWD), or Hondas. I don't want to follow a crown around here. I want to be different. Plus, I see alot of people on these forums having hatches. I want to have a coupe so its considered an "American built Silvia", not a sil-eighty, or 180sx (if i dont do the headlight conversion). I know that it wont be an official Silvia, but I want the closest thing.

ANYWAYS. What I was thinkin is that maybe i should get the sr20det first, then the car. Think about it. If I get a sr20det, mod it up with some Greddy pistons and rods,Put a Greddy T78 turbo with a Greddy Intercooler, buy a modified head from somewhere, do all that happy-go-lucky stuff, then if I don't want it, sell the engine and turbo/intercooler kit online to someone willing to spend double for what I bought it for. Thank you Ebay. You know? Thats after I find out what car I before I sell the SR.

Alright. Keep those replies coming in. Maybe I'll change my mind.

Hey James, how about this. I dont want to be part of the "PITTSBURGH AREA" crowd. If you were to come around here, you would see nothing but honda's n dsm's. I'm sorry to break it to you, but i've wanted a 240 since I seen one in Ohio. Cleveland to be exact. I was at an import show. That was about 3 years ago. I'm 18 now, so you do the math. I've wanted one even before the hype began. I just "jumped" on the band wagon from this website. I thought it might help a little and make a few friends that know about SR's and 240's. So how about you take you "bandwagon" loven ***, and show it to someone who cares?

These forums are to help. Not to get smart with people that need help.

Buy the car first, cuz who knows, you might want to be "different" and swap in the rb later on instead of the sr. This is what i'm doing to be soooooo freaking different, I'm waiting to buy a skyline shell and put in the ka or the sr, muuuuuhahahah:hammer:
