Running on three cylinders, no signal to #1. Need help
I have a ca18det swapped hatch, it ran good until the wiring from the previews owner started to fall apart at which point i decided to get all new wiring from wiring specialties.
So i replaced the lower and upper harness and have everything back together but coilpack #1 isn't getting the signal to fire. I used a test light to check the coilpack harness and it was good, so what could it be? ignitor? ecu? My ecu is thowing code 21 "Ignition signal fault" Last edited by wurley; 01-26-2013 at 08:05 PM.. |

i thought the problem was a bad connection, but the test light shows the signal wire isn't doing anything on #1. I don't see how this could happen on only one cylinder unless its a wiring problem, but like i said my wiring is all new.

I would then test for continuity on that wire. Could possibly be there is a break somewhere in the wiring. Also wouldn't hurt to open up the ECU and have a look at the board to make sure there are no burn marks or blown capacitors near the pin related to #1 coil.

find a coil wiring diagram and trace the wires for the coil that is not firing. then check to make sure yours are connected to where they are supposed to go by doing a continuity test. if i am not mistaken, this is a waste spark ignition system so coil one and four, and coil two and three should be parallel wired. if so, coil one should have the same wires as coil four. but, i could be wrong.
