Detailed Vehicle History Definitions:

First Owner
When the first owner(s) obtains a title from a Department of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership.

Manufacturer Recall
Automobile manufacturers issue recall notices to inform owners of car defects that have come to the manufacturer's attention. Recalls also suggest improvements that can be made to improve the safety of a particular vehicle. Most manufacturer recalls can be repaired at no cost to you.

New Owner Reported
When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at a Department of Motor Vehicles.

Not Actual Mileage Title
When the seller certifies, under the Truth-in-Mileage Act, that the odometer reading is NOT ACTUAL MILEAGE. This may occur because the disclosed odometer reading was not accurate and verifiable.

Personal Use
Vehicle was registered by the owner for private or personal use.

Salvage Title
A Salvage Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value; or a vehicle that has been declared a Total Loss by an insurer or other state or jurisdiction. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage but the majority use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again in that state. The following ten States also use Salvage titles to identify stolen vehicles - AZ, FL, GA, IL, MN, NJ, NM, NY, OK and OR.

Yes acutally. Its about what I expected. The car is perfect and the Odometer report is simply because it was driven less then 2k miles in 6 months and re registered. It was being repaired at that time.

Its got 40k miles, looks/drives perfect and we can get it for $12,600. We might do it since there is no way we can find a 01 2.5 RS that would match ours and this car is seriously mint even after the salvage title.

So what you guys think about buying a salvaged car?

Ya. We would keep it. Although im not sure what their insurance is going to do so we might have to get a new loan and if that happens I dont think they will give a loan on a salvage title.

I wouldn't mind buying a salvage car only if its a "theft recovered" type of salvage. I wouldn't touch a salvage car that was due to severe crashed, accident, fire and such. My girlfriend's old car was salvage (accident) and what a nightmare that POS was, but then a couple of my friends had theft recovered salvage cars and they were perffect.

I have driven salvaged cars for years. They are great IF you know where it was hit and how it was fixed. My family has bought salvaged cars and fixed them up to drive for a long time. Insurance and a loan company will only give you 75% of what a perfect car is worth. You also need to have proof that the cars is straight (for your own protection), an alignment print out will work fine. But BECARFUL I have seen some cars put back on the road that shouldn't have been (by other people). good luck.

I would do the bondo knock technique (or magnet), unusual looking body glue, and underchassis inspection.

Same damage as our Impreza now, right front. I don’t think we are getting the WRX mentioned. We found another at a Autonation store that we can get for 15.5k. We are fighting the insurance company from the dumbass who hit us right now. Might get a lawyer involved if they continue to treat us they way they have been.

Don't take SHIT from insurance companies, and don't hesitate to threaten them with legal action.
