Drove my friends S14. Got comments...

Well he JUST bought this 95 with only like 28k on it. The car is in near showroom condition and obviously never driven hard(owned by a female secretary type), but when I was driving it, it feels more bouncy then my stock S13. It just has like a Crown Victoria type feel to the suspesion or something. Is that how the S14's are, or may it be something with the shocks/struts? We're just looking for some feedback. I got on it a lil downtown Chicago last night after Formula D and it seemed to handle well in the turns. I just dunno...

i ate yogurt today

actually when i drove an s14 it felt EXACTLY same stiffness as my car (both stock suspension). Maybe your friend has some blown shocks or something.. but then again i've never heard of shocks blowing at 28k miles unless the secretary lady was driving 20++ mph over speedbumps.

Everything elsefelt pretty much the same. The engine sounded the same, it shifted the same, pretty much everything else, but the suspension...

that's because everything else pretty much is the same

the interior even looks alot like the s13 interior

240sx stock suspension is supposedly very bouncy and gay. my s14 came with springs so i dunno. but alot of people that still have stock suspension complain about it.

Definitly struts, I'm not sure if they are blown, but they are definitly underdamped in the case of that car. Possably just worn. Or the gas may have leaked out, which can happen over time, not just mileage.

It's still a 10 y/old car. I'm think pretty much any o.e. shocks on any 240 would be toast by now.

lighter sway bars won't cause it to bounce, they will cause it to have more body roll.

And yup, it's an SE...

Sounds like the struts are just old and need to be replaced. Runny how things work. My car is 15 years old with 108k and my struts are fine, and they look origanal to me...

S14's have a shorter stroke on the shocks so they bottom out easier and wear out faster.

I'm guessing the shocks/struts are blown. When they went on my 95 the think rode like ass. Very noticeable. I talked to a guy at a local shop and he said he saw my car from a mile away bouncing all over the place. Megans fixed that but now it is stiff as hell.

thanks for the comments guys.... the car in question is my car... i think i will get some new shocks/struts and see how that goes... i used to have a h22 civic (no hating) with tein ss's, and that was bumpy but it was stiff and bumpy... the s14 is bumpy but its soft... so its like the car bounces but its cushioned... which IMO is worse than the coilovers...

H22's are cool, IMO.

Anything with blown dampers, be it a spring/shock combo or a full coilover system, will oscillate excessively.
