What exactly do I need for a head unit hookup?

I searched and found one thread answering this but I just wanted to make absolutely sure. I have a head unit and a car, what do I need to ask for when I go into the audio shop?

If you have an s14 with a cd player and have that stupid amp in the trunk you will need to either get an amp adapter (bad idea) or take the thing out and splice some wires. (fun). make sure you either get some nice wire crimps or get a solder and and shrink tube. I suggest solder, but I would shrink tube your connection just to keep everything nice.
