Xbox 360 + Dsl = Help?!?!

alrght here is my situation I want xbox live on the 360 but I have dial up. I want to upgrade to DSL but I want to keep AOL. If you have DSL on AOL can you please tell me what you did? because I cant find a straight explanation

^^^ I agree with him, but I wil think, since it was not mentioned, that someone in the house other than the thread starter actually needs the child-like user friendliness and idiot proof security that AOL offers, like a child or a non computer-literate parent. (or a retard if no kids or old folks are in the house)

You can keep your AOL and it will still connect through a high speed connection instead of having to dial up if you upgrade to high speed, but that would be kinda dumb, seeing as you still have to PAY AOL the same amount. On the other hand, Time Warner Cable has been advertising AOL with their RoadRunner service around here, so that MIGHT be the solution you need to explore instead of DSL.

I have no clue who it would be in Virginia. You'd have to look into it. I have broadband through Time Warner Cable and it's waaaaay faster the DSLow.

lol DSL is only slow if u are goin from cable to DSL or if u download shit like crazy... u cant complain at all goin from dial up to DSL now can u?? besides...there are different speeds of DSL.

typically when you sign up they'll give you all the equipment you need with a small deposit. or at least thats how it worked for me.

Adelphia Cable, with DVR HD Digital Cable and highspeed cable for me is about 120$ a month.

The Cable internet itself is like, 40-60$. Always changes for me cause I call every 3 months and tell them I'm switching to DSL and they drop my rate for a month or two.

I'm in North VA (PWC) and I use Comcast. As far as DSL goes...there should be Verizon. What you basically do is change your pricing plan on AOL to BYOC or Bring Your Own Connection. I believe its around $10 a month.


Now for my opinions...I don't like AOL and decided to cancel. They wanted to give me such a hard time tell they finally did it. BUT a few months later they are taking money out of my dad's account again....why? because my brohter (who's in Norfolk) decided to log onto AOL with his SN. Long story short, we had to go thru the bank (who then talked to AOL) to get our money back. They are very sneaky and prey on the weak.

You buy aol high speed. it's an account that gives you access to AOL with using a 3rd party internet provider. this account isn't broadband btw.
Then you find out what your local DSL providers are and sign up with them. DSL is actually cheaper now days. it's like the cost of dial up 5 years ago.
now go out and buy a broadband router (IE: linksys), some DSL ISP do provide these. Modem to WAN port on router, computer to router and xbox360 to router.

i had to do this with my dad.... he wanted to keep AOL but wanted DSL, what you do is get Broadband for AOL, call AOL and tell them that your gonna get DSL with another company and want to keep their services, so what you do is get DSL with like SBC and connect to AOL with that.... basically youll still be using the AOL Program but not the AOL Internet connection
