SR tranny problem

ok, so lately my car has been driving funny....i would feel that the car lost power....and everytime i warm up the car it makes this scratching noise...coming from the tranny i believe. and when i drive in gears...it makes this winding noise...really annoys the hell out of me. so then one time i was going to work on the freeway....i'm in 5th gear...then all of a sudden i hear something snap. and i'm like "OH DAMN!" then the car shuts off. i pull over....start the car again....puts it in gear... and it wont budge....EVEN in neutral it dies out. and my dad comes over and puts it in 5th gear. rides the hell out of the clutch...and it moves a lil. so i'm guessing it's stuck in 5th...is this a clutch or a tranny problem? the cars at my house. and i miss driving the poor thing.
