Am I suppose to have a pcv valve in my intake tube

I lucked out with gettin a s14 and not a 13, so ignore my username lol. Anyway, instead of retyping everything using up space I'll link you to a post on another board. Basically I'm just trying to get a 2nd opinon. My first post is where my questions began.

http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothrea...postid=1565101

I also want to know how this would affect me when I get an aftermarket intake. If all else fails, I guess I'll take it by my local nissan dealership and see what they say.

Thanks

Quit posting on NICO, you're wasting time and energy. You might as well be posting on a cooking forum with the answers you'll get from those idiots.

There is only one PCV valve, just like you found, beside the alternator, screwed into the breather separator, mounted on the lower cover. The crankcase vent on the valve cover does not have a valve or pressure relief of any kind, there's a steel hose connector on the rubber coupling but that's it.

The PCV system by me...

The Green circle is the Valve. It's behind the alternator.

Ok this pic if of 240sx.org for an aem install, but it's a perfect pic to show what im talkin about. The little brass pipe thing on the tube with the yellow star above it, is what my mechanic said was the pcv valve.

That's the valve cover vent...NOT the PCV.

PCV is UNDER the intake manifold, as shown in the post by S14DB, above.

They perform ENTIRELY different functions.

Hmm I thought the brass elbow thing on the valve cover was the vent, but your saying the fitting in that pic that supposedly was a pcv valve, is on the also a vent? Just checkin. Now I know when I get a intake, it will hook up like normal...what a relief.

I think me gettin my car checked the other day by that mechanic will be the first and last time he sees my car. Because I know pcv valves are suppose to rattle when good, and I plucked the thing today and it made no sound at all. I was like wtf, it must not be a valve. And he had the nerve to tell me and my dad...yeah it's in good shape. So if he won't take the time to use alldata to make sure things are what he thinks they are, I can take my car and money elsewhere. He was a really nice guy, and my dad knows him well, but still just because you've been in the field awhile don't forget no two cars are the same and times are changing!

That pic you had. That should just be a hollow fitting. The tube should then run upto the valve cover for the air intake/vent. Air is drawn into the block thru there. then it goes thru the block to the Breather(the box bolted to the block in the second pic), then thru the PCV Valve(screwed into the breather block) up the hose and then into the 4 intake runners.

Hmm this is so funny, that guy and my dad thought it was a valve. I mean yeah its basically hollow, the only thing is that the bottom of it has a smaller hole. Just big enough to stick a match in probable. Anyone else like that? I'm pretty sure we've confirmed it's not a valve now lol.

Thanx
