oil pan gaurd (protector)
Ive been searching trying to see if I can find one of those bash gaurds that goes under neath the front area of hte car. since i know have the rb in the car. My oil pan actually sits about a 1/2 inch lower than the subframs so i want to get somthing to protect it, besides the sway bar (lol). Has any one seen any for sale . Ive seen them for sure in japanese magazines. Defintley dont feel like fabbing one up.

it's also a rip-off...$60 for a piece of aluminum! Make your own. You could probably get the tools and aluminum for the same price.

projectsilvia changed its name to projectnissan because they started making more parts for other nissans, but yeah I plan to build my own skidplate. If enough people are interested, I can post the measurements, and specs on the materials.

Yea, I work at an AC shop with a computerized plasma cutter, if I ever get around to it, I'm going to make a pattern and start making and selling these things. we'll see.

Isn't aluminum a bit soft for this piece of metal?
It's supposed to prevent the oil pan from hitting anything, so if it's aluminum, it'll bend up if you hit the "shield", and still hit the oil pan, possibly denting it, wouldn't you? |

would a large front sway bar even be possible with taht piece of metal? It seems it would get in the way.

I think he's just saying to use the large front sway bar as protection.

Even though it will dent the aluminum, it will absorb a good amount of the impact. No skid plate, unless made with thick steel will be complete protection. But they are all better than having nothing.

Easiest fabrication I have made for the car yet. Took an hour with a trip to the hardware store included. The material is scrap aluminum that by random chance shares its size and thickness with a speed limit sign. It attaches with the 4 bolts that held on the plastic undertray. Takes hits with the BFH with enough flex that I think I'll be fine unless I hit something truly large.... in which case I was probably fucked anyway. ![]() My car sees quite a bit of gravel road and rallycross action. And in two weeks I'll be marshaling the 100 Acre Wood ClubRally. So I need the protection.

why?! Steel is heavier, more difficult to work with, corrosive, and as a result, more expensive. I have never seen a rally car with a steel skidplate. Aluminum is far better suited. The deformation actually helps by absorbing energy of the hit. Unless you are rock crawing in your S-chassis, or plan on attacking some of the west-cost rallies, 1/8" thick Al is fine. ![]() Honestly, if you people pay more than $50 for a plate of Aluminum, you should be slapped. This is an incredibly easy part to make for little money. Mine looks like ass because I don't car for appearance, and I know it will still work, but you can easily make it look good if you take your time. EDIT: read this: http://rallynotes.com/archives/wp-24 -Matt
