Bridgestone Potenza RE01-R
Has anyone tried these?
I'm getting new tires next month, and i'm debating between a set of these or a set of Advan Neovas. Any useful info would be appreciated. Thanks |

These are the replacement for the old RE-01 I assume?
The tread pattern looks very aggressive! That nice fat wide band of rubber down the middle should make for some great traction. I dont think you can go wrong with either these or the Advans....so get what's cheaper ![]() |

They're out on sale at Tirerack and the RE01-R's are cheaper for my size (225/45/17) but there is very little info online about them (in english) so I don't know what people think of them. The Neovas are a bit more expensive, but the wear rate is better.

I thought I saw a test between RE-01R and Neova AD07 on Hotversion or Option or Best Motoring or something.
I think they said the RE-01R tire is overall a better street tire because it handles the rain better than the AD07 did, and their dry grip is pretty much the same. |

These sound like a tire that only pros need use. I think these tires will not have a high tread wear rating over the Advans. .. .Bridgestonda has never carried a very high performance grade AA tire to my recollection, I know porsche their off-the-line tires are bridgestones, the 911's run with them, then jump to the p-Zero Nero for the 911 TT's and C4S'. .. .
So I think you'd be better of with the Advans for now, until more info ic unveiled as we flow onward. .. .I'm sure you'd want to know more about them.

I don't plan on buying new wheels soon, so i'm stuck with 225/45/17
I just called up Tirerack, and they said they just did a test that hasn't been put up online yet Neovas win in the dry grip, pretty much hands down RE-01Rs win in the wet, slightly RE-01Rs weigh a bit less than the Neovas |

Yeah, I have 225/45/17 Kumho MX and I'm probably going to go 215/40/17 on 17x9 front, or 235/40/17. Gotta figure out what to put on the rear when I go 18x9.5 though, since 225/40/18 sounds tasty...

I don't know about the RE01R since I haven't driven on them, but I have the AD07's on my S14 kouki and I love them! I'm placing really well in autocross in the DSP class. I'm usually only about couple seconds behind the DSP leader, Ben Martinez, who is a national DSP SCCA champion running Kumho V710s.

Weren't the 615s the ones Falken recalled cuz of the problems of sidewalls getting destroyed?
As for the sizes of 215/45 and 235/45, I checked, neither the RE01R nor the Neova have either of those sizes in 17. |

RE01-Rs have a treadwear of 140, hence time attack/track days design. Or if you have the need to bling on tires. AD07s last longer and more of a streetable tire.

where on earth did you hear Falken recalled the RT615?
THe RE-01 and AD07 probably outgrip it, but they cost nearly twice as much they also prolly deal with heat better, but thats what u get for the money |

Dousan: Thanks for the heads up on the size, I'll check them out
As for the tire wear, at least according to the Tirerack guy I called up, the Neovas wear down quicker than the RE01Rs. The Neovas are softer and grip better in the dry. He said that the tire wear is relative, so it's not really fully accurate. As for the 615 recalled, I might be wrong, but I heard that Falken recalled their newest tire. I assumed it was the 615 because they are quite new. |

sidewall height, rubbing issues, width
u can fit a 235/40 just as good, sidewall will be smaller and you wont run into rubing issues as quickly. wider = better for the auto-x usually right? 615s are junk. bleh. hate them. yeah i had them. |

Dousan has 11,419 posts, but only about half of them have helpful information because it takes him two, maybe three posts to get his piont across so it's intelligible (something beyond "neovas rule" or "dd rules" or "te37 rules" or "jic sucks" or "___ sucks")
This isn't a criticism but a request. Since you're a guy who has probably spent more time and money on a 240 than 95% of people here and have opinions that are potentially very helpful and influential, can you take the extra 1 minute or so and explain your opinions oh...every once and a while? Again, not a personal attack (i'd never do that), but a PLEA from me: how bout an extra word here or there so we don't need you to ask for clarification of your open condemnations or priases, like i'm about to do right now: Dousan: Do you think 615's are junk? or do you think 615's are junk compared to AD07s and RE-01Rs? Do you think they're junk? or Do you think they're junk for a drift car? Do you think they're junk? or Do you think they're junk because your sponsored by, i dunno, Advan/Yokohama or something? Much appreciated, and hopefully no offense taken by you. I ask because nearly every account (both drifters and people who try to go fast) i've read seems to hold the 615 in high regard for their grip and price value. |

^ it was hearsay. I was talking to someone about tires when I got my car smogged, and he told me that the new Falken tires got recalled because of the sidewalls got busted/destroyed. I assumed that they were the 615s because they are new.
Forget what I said about the 615s, I have no experience from them. |

haha i dont have a lot of time to post often. so i reply fast and quick. even if i give my opinion most wont listen and i wouldnt expect someone too, i am a very very strong believer in trying things yourself and seeing how it is. ive run SOOO many tires/setups/wheel sizes offsets aero, seats etc etc etc etc etc over years i wont sit down and write to rever damn post that comes up. dont have time for it.
rt615s, dont grip so great, are not so hot when really down on tread, or new, in the middle they are decent. they dont last long enough they dotn come in decent sizes and the ST115 imo is far superior i have no tire sponsors. been offered some help or to join some friends but i declined. i like to run what i like. right now i love AD07s looking to try RE01s next though, my AD07s are on their last leg. 8 event? not bad for a front tire. option like i said i dont have time to post big replies if someone is intersted they are always more then welcome to PM me, i always put more stuff there. i believe in hard work and research. you'd be suprised how many pepople pm me about wheel fitment tires and setups and i always take the time to help out. at the track as well. ihate the internet. btw, post counts dont mean shit. i dont know why people make a big deal about it. i shoul dhave kevin reset me. i could care less if i have 0 post. post doesnt reflect knowledge. im living proof! |

are you honestly saying the ST-115 is a better tire than the RT-615? i find that hard to accept
but then again, this is drifting, where tire rules are different, especially for rears |

I had an opportunity to be on the track with two Evos on RT-615s. They both got greasy while my ES100s stayed grippy. I confirmed this by conversing with both drivers.
They both praised the initial grip and low price but said the stock tires and AD07s just blew the RT615s away in terms of longevity of grip. The AD07s received high marks as keeping most of the Evo steering feel while increasing grip. The RE-01Rs were supposed to come very close to the RT-615 in terms of dry grip. Whether or not they succeed is up to whomever decides to test the two. The tires are so new you can either bite the bullet and buy them (and probably be quite happy) or pay almost exactly the same and buy some AD07s, which are tried and true. I have never had to even dice with ST115s. Anyone running them has never proved to be a problem to pass, regardless of horsepower or chassis. I won't try them because I don't like being slow, sorry to those who require personal experience. |
