Robots!

Dang, watching VH1 earlier, they posted a clip of an actual quadripedal robot that could self balance itself. FREAKING AMAZING!

I was thinking to myself how this kinda of technology would be able to save so many lives when mastered and introduced to real-world situations.

Can anyone say MetalGearDONKEY?

that would be an awsome battlefield ammo runner or like an automatic homing pigeon type stretcher. That would be awsome, someone get's hit, but you don't have to sacrafice two other guys/weapons to carry him. That would be freakin' awsome. Auto-stretcher.

This robot is being developed for the ARMY. Only problem I see so far is the noise. It's not exactly "tactical". I could just see some Soldier getting fed up with that constant whirring and putting "Robo-Lassie" out of it's misery.

The last kick was impressive, it was enough to shift the weight signifigantly, but the recovery looked almost, natural? Scary stuff.

Hope I'm around in another 80 years.

While the whining isn't so stealth, why would it matter?

You're dying, would you care about your life? the the whining of the robot that retrieves you from battle?

"That whining is too much, i'll end my own life!"

and hey, they're still in their R&D mode. Give it a few years.

given the motives and track record of those who control the government/military, I'm scared shitless of robots when they can take over people's jobs, even if their job is to die on a battlefield...

robot: Knock knock

Civilian: "Oh, hello officer robot!"

robot: "surrender your weapons and stay indoors, there are terrorists afoot"

BAM, martial law.... Like in Iraq

ROBOTS DONT COME WITH CONSCIENCES

I think the noise is comming from small nitro engine. It sounds like it. Maybe its used to run a generator.

it looks like two anorexic midgets stuck in Chinese finger-trap type of metal enclosure. I can only come to the conclusion that the buzzing noise is them yelling for help. Did anyone find that video hilarious? and yes investing in that company would defiantly not be a bad idea.

It seems that people didn't like my comment about the robot being powered by a nitromethanol engine, since i got 2 negative rep points for it. According to Boston Dynamics, the robot is powered by a gasoline engine. I'm sorry if i said something wrong, apparently the type of fuel pissed off two people. If you ever owned a nitro powered R/C car, you would know it sounds exactly like the Boston Dynamics robot.

Actually, there are some kinds of those. I know UC Santa Cruz has been/is developing a lower-exoskeleton that allows the wearer to maneuver/jump with a 50-100 pound pack as well as (if not better than) as if he weren't wearing anything at all

IIRC, there was a man with a bionic arm that was linked up to fiberoptics to his muscles. Pretty much giving him his useful arm back. The only draw back was controlling the strenght. What if he was holding his baby, and had a slight twitch. He'd squeeze the life outta that baby!

Things like these robots makes me want to be a engineer. And build Iron Man.

Cool stuff. I watched a whole show on discovery last year about robotics and how far they've come and certains ones that were being developed.

The AI that is being developed right now is amazing. Robots actually learning like a child.

Anyone see the DARPA challenge too? That's some cool shit there.

I give it another 50 years before robots are a larger part of our lives.

Linking to Jesse Sullivan, the Bionic Man.

Dang, grafting electrodes to nerves to power his arms.

It'd be better if he had a Whip/Lasso/OttoOctopus arm, so he could be the Bionic Commando!! NES baby!

Time to research exoskeletal enhancements.

Since IronMan already has arms, he'll need some leg enhancers, right?

These will help him.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3502194.stm

Think of it as a NismoPowerBrace, for your legs. Reducing the strain of weight, making carrying heavy things easy as ice.

Imagine gettin kicked with one of those! WOW!
