Well a couple weeks ago when changeing rear brakes I noticed there was light rust on my rear subframe.  Its light and doesn't appear to be deep.  The paint is also flakeing off.

So what now?  I don't like the idea of leaving it rusty under there.  Can I just sand it down and prime it?  Anybody else get this?  I imagine it would be a pretty common thing...

If you're talking about the frame thas underneath the car (uh?) then go ahead and do what you said.  If you want it to be more permanent, i've heard from people that they beadblast and/or powdercoat the bottom of their car.. things like that.  I'd probobly end up sanding and priming mine too tho.

spray it with that rubberized coating from napa, a can is only a few bucks, and may last longer than primer. i used as sound deadening in the trunk of my first car years ago, worked fine, and the extras(i bought 2 cans) i sprayed on the under carriage and it held up good for about i year till i got rid of the car

Hrm...that sounds like extra weight to me <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

I'll see what I can do with it this weekend. &nbsp;I can just see myself getting rust in my eyes <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/butbut.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':but:'>

I've still got to put these t/c rod bushings in but I'm lazy <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sleeping.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':zzzz:'>
