215/40/17s?

Do you think that 215/40/17 tire will be to thin for a 17x8 rim? ive tried finding pictures but i can only find front pics and i cant tell from them. i know people use this set up but i wanna now if I should get 215/40/17 or just the standard 225/45/17s. i dont wanna stretch the tire.

215 will stretch.
if you dont want any stretch, then just put on some 225's.

I've been running 215/40-17's on a 17x8 for a while now.
They work awesome. The stretch is only mild.

Stretch is NOT good if you road race usually you want a very square setup and thus 215/40/17 would go on a 17x7 . The sidewall on a stretched tire becomes flexable which helps depending on your driving. Quite a lot of people that drift like having stretched tires and some dont... give it a try I bairly get a stretch with my 215/40/17 continental sport contacts on my 17x7.5 so 8's will be good.

yes. I am about to put a 225/45 on a 9 inch and anticipate the hicks that work at the tire place will throw a fit. Depending on where you live it may not be so bad

Stretch is technically bad if your going for peak grip. however, what most people consider "stretched" (ie, not 225s on a 7.5) isn't really stretched its just not oversquare, which is good.

when you your actually stretching (less than 215/40 on wider than 9J) the angle on the sidewall decreases load rating which decreases grip. doesn't particularly matter since with 215/40 your load ratings prolly already in the 80s. Furthermore, none of this matters in difting since its all driver preference.

It rocks for drifting since the tires don't make that stupid SCREE-EEEE-EEEEE-EEE noise as much. And you can go lower, which looks cooler (someone let Formula D know that truck gap sucks.) and some like the way the car feels with super low CG.

as for getting charged more, my grandma could put 215s on an 8.
