Shifter play (Very very sloppy)
(Yes i searched for "Loose shifter" results are here --> http://www.zilvia.net/f/search.php?searchid=923165 .. The only thread that had a reply didn't help me at all ---> http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.p...=Loose+shifter)
Here's a link to a video i took of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fR09iK9LrxE This happened last week... On the way home from work the shifter felt really weird to where fifth and 2nd gear felt like there was like a ton of jelly in it that was actually hindering it from going in.. The feeling is really Numb in those gears.. I was fooling around with it last night , and there is also play when i push it down (In towards the tranny), like how a lot of new VW/Audi trannys are to get into reverse.. When i push it in and then put it into gear it feels a lot more normal... Maybe something broke that normally forces it down..? I can drive on it fine, it just feels really numb and trying to shift fast (especially into 5th) = Mis-shift cause it's so numb that i don't know if it's in gear or not. =/ |

if you take your shifter out, you will be able to see whats wrong. the shifter sticks into a small round hole, bropably broke something in thare. maby the plastic thing on the end of the shifter.
to take the shifter off just use a snap ring tool.

Thanks.. I'll take a look at it and do some shopping around for some mounts.
Hmmm.. But what does the mount have to do with the shifter? (Sorry for the lame questoions.. just don't know much about tranny's) |

it can be bad tranny mounts because it either crack or wearing out. You have to push down to engage because the tranny mount is not holding ( the tranny mount is right below the tranny)

There is a round bushing at the bottom of the shifter that, if worn out, can cause play when shifting gears.
The jello sensation can be caused by worn tranny/engine mounts. Like when you start the car and at idle the shifter just wobbles. You can either buy new mounts/nismo, syko (sp?), cusco/ or you can fill them with some urethane. If you search around for filling mounts you can find a few write-ups on it.

You can also replace the springs on the side of the tranny below the shifter. Phase2 used to sell some that were made by HKS if I remember correctly. I also heard you can double up springs or put in your own that you find at home depot.

Keep in mind if you install the new springs that when you put in a short shifter it will be even harder to move because of less leverage. When I installed my short shifter it was way harder until I drove around for awhile. And it is still stiffer than the stock now.
