Ok, just bought the car...it came with vlsd <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='
![]() During normal driving conditions, there is no problems works fine. But when I really gas it, theres this knocking/tapping/grinding noise that comes form the diff while the car is under heavy torque (off launch) and it does it between shifts (Yes...its a F&#King slushbox...) Heres what I can tell you. It did it when I bought the car, so i decided to change the gear oil. I know it needs special oil...and someone mentioned that it had chunks of silicone floating around it in. When I drained the oil, it looked a little used, but not really bad. There were no chunks of anything in it. When i replaced the oil, I couldn't find any specific oil for vlsd...But i found a bottle of "limited-slip additive" Which you pour in with your regular gear oil. Again, no chunks of silicone or whatever. I also drained and changed the ATF Can someone clear this up for me? What is the oil supposed to look like? If i have the wrong stuff in (and if the wrong stuff was in from before) would it cause this noise? Would it cause serious damage? Im leaving for michigan in a few days and wont be able to work on the car up there. Its as if my whole drivetrain (cept engine) is just fucked..someone help! Thanks in advance, -Al

The VLSD doesn't require LSD additive. LSD additive is for clutch-type LSD's. The viscous coupling inside is sealed and filled with a silicone fluid. If the vicsous coupling breaks, it can't be rebuilt.
Other things could cause a noise like that, though. Improper sideloading of the gears, U-joints, CV joints. |
