Buying Advice: Used Set of Cusco Coilovers or New BC Coilovers
I have about 900.00 to work with now for my suspension. I did some reading and research on BC Coilovers which can be purchased through a group buy on this board for 799.99 Shipped. They will be brand new and have good reviews internationally especially with the WRX guys. Here is a link to that thread from a WRX message board:
http://www.rexnet.com.au/forum/index...ic=48220&st=60 Or I can buy some 8 month old Cusco Zero-2 Coilovers for 1100.00 from a friend of mine. Are the Cusco Coilovers worth the extra money? Also he did drift with these coilovers should I worry about reliability? So, Cusco Zero 2's or BC Coilovers??? |

I'd get the used Cusco's, assuming he's the first owner of them.
Yes, the Cusco's are worth the extra money. You're comparing apples to oranges. I wouldn't believe WRX owners for anything, especially reviews or coilover knowledge. Drifting IMO doesn't put more stress than if he had used them for other activities.

BC coilovers, they make Megan, Buddy Club and Apexi N1 EXV's. Now they claim in a letter to one of the forum members here around a year ago that they use the same internals thats straight from BC's Chairman supposedly. Now people have butt dynoed the Megan's VS the Apexi's and claimed they felt a difference in valving i.e. the Apexi's being nicer than the Megans. People have also used the Buddy Clubs and sworn how they liked them. To me I start to wonder. Which leads me back to Stance or KTS. Or maybe one of the other brands like Tanabe or Silk Road. The Cusco's could be a mixed bag as well. Some people like them some people hated them. Its really hard to know. To be honest short of putting your own system together with custom shocks i.e. like Koni's and whatnot your going to get what you pay for when buying coilovers. They only ones that have the rep of being pretty damn good for the money compared to other stuff again is the Stance or the KTS which is a few dollars more than you have. All I can say is if you really want the Cusco's and you know they are in excellent shape buy them. In your shoes I would take them over the BC's

I'd rather pay $200 extra to get a proven reputable brand versus a newcomer. Hell, I'd even go so far to get Megan's (~$900) before BC's (although I'd never run Megans, just putting myself in your shoes). At least Megan's have been run by a number of S13/S14 owners to make them "proven" enough for the entry level overseas stuff.
