While working on my swap I stumbled across a little rust on my '97 240. It is on the front and back of the passengers side shock tower. I took a mini grinder with a metal brush and cleaned it up and ended up finding out that the rust made it's way through the sheet metal. How bad does this look to you. A buddy of mine has a tig welder and can weld in a plate for me, but I was just wondering what you guys thought.

IMO cut a lil out and weld in a plate. Do it now before it will cost you a lot more.

make sure you get all the rust and cover the exposted metal. duh

Start looking very carefully all over that car for rust. The amount that rust that is there means there could be hidden rust somewhere else. wherever you find it eliminate it and make sure you replace with clean metal. Avoid moisture in the process so you do not trap it in when repainting.
