Stock Sr20DET with Greddy FMIC. how hard can I push it without it blowing up. I'd like to be able to do some good runs at the track before I open it up and go to the T3/4 turbo and bigger injectors. I'm thinking about 14-16 PSI boost and maybe 325-350HP I have a full 3" exhaust and the N1 from A'pexi. Any thoughts ??

from what I hear 300 hp isn't unreasonable for an SR@ 14 PSI with the right exhaust and a boost controller. but I"m new to the Nissan world ....

from what I've been told, the SR can take 500hp on stock internals, I could be incorrect, though. Resonably I would say 350-400, remember this isn't a honda, it is a purpose built turbo engine, nissan designed it to take alot of beating, and the fact that it came turboed stock makes me think 400 is easily attainable, but I wouldn't suggest it for very long

From what I understand, the redtop s13 sr20det should handle 350 rear wheel horsepower without significant wear. 400 is pretty much the roof, and running it around at that increases wear quite a bit.

Strengthen the SR and then push a bunch of power through it.

400rwhp on stock internals is starting to push the reliability issue.....even before that the from what I know the headgasket is the weak point.

400rwhp is very attainable but kinda on the redzone if you are WOT on it all the time.

/etc/shadow is probably the closest to the actual power you can push out of an sr20det on stock internals. 400hp is, however the limit, and running the 21 lbs of boost to get it to that level will cause problems. I have been looking at an sr20det swap recently and my recomendation if you want to push 400 hp safely is to add a few internal performance mods such as replacing the :

rod bolts
bearing (sr20's are infamous for spinning bearings, dont know why)
copper head gaskett
get ARP head studs
550cc injectors
if you want to go all out :
JE low compression pistons
Forged rods
valve stems and springs
lifters

but even before you start replacing all those internals, remember that the key to going turbo from N/A is fuel. you need to get fuel to that motor so you are going to have to replace the:
fuel pump with a skyline GTR pump or a 300zxTT pump
the fuel rail may also have to be replaced
and i already mentioned some bigger injectors

now if you do all that i just mentioned you could bolt on a T40 turbo and push 500 rwhp safely.

okie here is what i heard bout the sr20's... I heard u can attain 400hp on stock sr20 with proper tuning. also the internals can handle up to 350 and only 400 if tuned wid a good set up. That is what i heard. but after that like everyone has said then it start to bring the question how reliabe is it now.

500HP in a daily driven sometimes raced often drifted S13. I"m starting to get scared. Next I"ll hear tht it's possible to rival a Skyline with the right mods.

350 not a problem with sr20det. head gasket holds past 20psi as long as the car is not run hot and or lean. pistons are good till 400hp (cast pistons) rods and crank are good for 600+

Have any of you actually driven a car with that much power? My SR is at 10 psi and with a 2600 lb car, it pretty much spanks anything out there. With 14 psi, I plan on giving tweaked WRX's a run for their money. 350 hp in that much car will net you LOW 12's and high 11's with a decent 60 ft. Do you know how fast that is? Corvette Z06's do it in 12.9. You will be seriously bookin' with that kind of power. Why don't you get an SR first and just drive it stock and see how you like it instead of planning how to destroy the world!

By the way, the stock T25 blows hot air above 14-15 psi. And the flow isn't that great anyway. Upgrade the turbo and push the same psi and get way more power.

Eric
