head unit problem
Okay, I’m on my third head unit now. I put a new the head unit utilizing a wiring harness. I was left over with a speaker amplifier and a radio ground. I had no sound. So after some searching I read about speaker amplifiers. so I tried by passing the "active" amplifier in the front speakers by matching:
the blue w/yellow front left neg - the blue w/white front left pos + the brown w/white stripe is front right pos + the solid brown is front right neg - I still have no sound! also, I don't know if this affects any thing but a mute wire was left over on the headunit side Thanks in advance |

What year car?
Did you cut past the stock radio connector? They make adapters for the harness that would make this real easy. I'll assuming the HU is actually powering up? May want to look in the FSM wiring diagrams to find out what the deal is with the stock amps. You may want to just bypass them. |

more than likely no stock amp. hopefully you didn't cut your factory plug off, becuase like he said above, they make a plug that plugs into it. nissans dont have a ground wire, so you just have to take the black wire coming out of the back of the radio and ground it to the chassis of the car. easiest way is to put a ring terminal on it, and screw it to any piece of metal. if you need any more help, just let me know.

connect the speaker amplifier wire from the car to the speaker amp control wire from the new head unit, you will get sound, your not getting any sound because your stock amp isnt turned on, if you dont wanna use the stock amp run your own speaker wires through the car.

I have the factory amp (little circuit board behind the speaker), so I tried to bypass it by using the existing wires as my speaker wires. and I cut before the plug. The car is a 93 240 SE

also get a multi-meter and beep test the wires at each speaker for continuity, i dont think you hooked them up right, the stock wiring can be a mess if your not sure what your doing, you might be better off running your own wires.

I think it might me my cheap walmart harness thats bad. if its not that i give up and letting tweeter do it. also i there is a mute wire on the head unit side that has no matching wire.
