need help asap
okay i got the engine running... here's the problem, it will not idle. it'll start, run for a few seconds, rev to like 2000~2500 rpm and then drop to 0 rpm and die...
i've plugged all the vaccume lines [removed EGR] and that's all that i can really thing of. the only other thing is the AAI [idle speed controler] any and all help would be nice thanks -Peter |

yeah sorry, it is the KA24DE.
i've been getting a lot of contradicting info on the timing procedure that i followed to set the base timing in the first place and low and behold i can find no such info in the Nissan FSM so i guess i have a new question. what is the correct base timing procedure? and second off why would the IVAC go bad after only sitting on a shelf for three weeks while the engine got a rebuild? thanks again |

iirc the timing procedure goes something like this... warm the motor, unplug the tps, rev the motor to 2-3k & let stabilize, adjust idle to 650-ish RPM using IACV screw, rev the motor to 2-3k & let stabilize, adjust distributor until timing is 20-ish degrees btdc, tighten distributor, reconnect tps. Double check the FSM for the procedure, it's in there. The marks on the crank pulley are for, +5, 0, -5, -10, -15, -20.
And here is a trick I came up with to help see where the timing pin lines up on the marks... ![]() You should also check your MAF wiring and connections (2500 limit = safe mode?). Never hurts to pull the codes from the ECU, it could help point you in the right direction. |
