car "disengaging" from gear

my s14 has lately seemed to roll along like nothing is wrong, and then randomly, for periods as long as 20 seconds not "engage" power. meaning i will have foot on the gas, but it feels as if the car is in neutral.this is while crusing along at highway speeds. also does it MUCH more when i turn the wheel to the right, at any speed to make a right turn. also only seems to happen after about 20 minutes of driving.any insight?

the car is manual. i did not think it was clutch because when i shift, there is no noticeable slipping, it seems to engage quickly.
also, just one time at a light i noticed the rpm's bouncing around between 500 and 1500 rpms. like i said, this only happened once, out of about two hours of driving.

when cruising on the highway and you notice the "loss" do the rpm's seem to rev higher without the car moving? and also the fluctuating needle at idle could suggest something with fuel...just a suggestion

the engine doesn't put out much torque at 3K rpm at 50% throttle, probably not the clutch. to be sure, check how it reacts at WOT. that's when it will slip if at all.

are there any noises or vibration associated with it? do you do anything to get it back into "gear" or does it do it on its own? do the RPMs spike or drop?

have not noticed what rpms do during the loss of power. it goes back into gear on its own. there is some vibration associate with it, like a side to side shimmy, feels like its coming from the rear.

maybe it's literally just a loss of power. if the rpms stay consistent or follow the drop in speed, the driveline is probably fine. it's more likely that you have a bad injector than your trans being broken intermittently.

yeah a bad injector which could produce the fluctuating needle at idle.

Loss of power during cruising = no fuel, or no timing.

Check TPS wire continuity (specifically the ground)

Check fuel pressure (if you have a gauge in the car, it'll be easy to see if it drops when this happens).

That's where I'd start.

update - revs dont drop when this happens, and it happened for about a 20 minute stretch today, every couple of seconds. fairly consistent.
