now i know this is a vague question, but i want to know, on average, what is the life expectancy of a 89-94 240SX engine? how many miles do most people get to see out of this engine before a replacement/rebuild is necessary?

Thanks,
Joe

Ya its pretty vague. First off, I am assuming you are talking about the KA24DE and not the SR20DET. &nbsp;KA would be the USDM engine. &nbsp;Well I have seen a S13 KA with 209,000 miles on it. I think it was 92. &nbsp;Heck, my S14 almost close to 200,000 too <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':crazy:'> Majority of those miles were highway for both engines described.

I've got 138,XXX miles on my stock KA ('89) and it still runs strong. Unless I run it up to about 5000rmp, then it smokes just a little.

I dont know much, but from my experience, my 91 fstbk has 110k and still runs VERY strong, and a 240 that i pulled a few things from in a junkyard had 210k racked up on it until it met a pole very hard.

take car of em, and they will last

It also depends if your engine is living with a broken lower timing chain guide like mine is...which I have heard from someone I know with a 95 KA that he went 95k before changing it for the hell of it. One thing that made me buy the 240 was hearing a post from a guy on here who was over 300k...

Well, I have a 90 with only 60K miles on ... so I cant really talk much about long life .. or that much detail on what wear has done to my engine, but, just beware of one thing, "THE TIMEING CHAIN GUIDE!" &nbsp;You hear a nice little rattle on startup with the eventual small tick tick tick from the timing chain compartment ... thats the ONLY real problem I could see with the engine of these cars. &nbsp;Other than that, these engines rack up 200K easily. &nbsp;I have a friend with a 89 s13 - he has 265K and is his daily driver. &nbsp;He was one of the main reasons that pushed me to get one of these cars. &nbsp;

If you do your regular maintance and replace parts when they wear out... a very long time. &nbsp;Usually on Nissan motors, gaskets will fail before engine internals do as long as you've performed all the required service. &nbsp;The problem is most people don't have the services done on time (or at all). &nbsp;At a certain point it becomes cost prohibitive to pay someone to replace worn parts like a head gasket. &nbsp;Now, if you can do the work yourself... that's another story.
