The age old question...

Im trying to figure out what my next mod should be. Im gonna do what matters more, weather it be coils or a diff.

My car is on stock suspension now, so Im leaning towards coils because my car looks like a donk. But everyone says get a diff before anything else because it makes the most difference.

what do you guys think?

A differential won't do shit if you can't control the car. OE suspension, especially 15 year old OE suspension, is about as solid a wet noodle.

Silly, but.
K&N Filter (believe me, best bang for buck, helped my problems out at least)

Tires if you don't already have a good pair. Suspension is a good start.
Maybe brakes or at least new pads. Endless I heard are pretty good.
Kill switch or some kind of security is a good one as well.

Upgrade clutch, flywhee, pressure disc. Hell, maybe even a better battery.

There's a lot really. =x
Just my two cents at least.

Coilovers are most important. Then you get sway and strutbars with some control arms. If you have any money left over, get your diff welded.

what's this car going to be used for?? zbrakes might be overkill if you're car isn't for the track and it seems you are on a budget since you didn't buy a bunch of mods right off and you made this thread....

I'd do:
suspension (bushings especially)
brakes (if they need work, if not wait until they do and then upgrade)
drivetrain (clutch/flywheel)
engine mods

basically I'd go over the car and anything that's wrong with it replace and upgrade whenever something breaks or requires maintenance...should save you some $$$ since you cant really sell the stock brakes or most other stock part for a whole lot.

1. I say get it running right. So you don't have to be on the side of the road.
2. I would say suspension and brakes since your in that region any way.
3. Diff
4. Wheels and a decent set of tires unless you know your going past 150mph.
5. Enjoy what you have for a while and expect many more mods to come like motor swaps, different colors, and a whole hell of alot of stares from all kinds of people.

honestly, i'd get the diff before the suspension. peg legging sucks.

i had more fun with my car after the diff before i got my suspension. the suspension just added more to the fun.

either way you wont go wrong, but i stand behind the route i took.

Thanks for the neutral rep.

Honestly, DIFF is critical. Driving without a diff is like having 1 fucking leg. If you dont plan to drift, or lower your car a lot then get it's not as important sure. But when it comes to bang for buck, LSD makes the most difference.

If you plan to do anykind of roadracing/drifting, then get a damn welded diff for $50 bucks. Then when you learn more you can drop $1000+ on coilovers. Think about how much money you are dumping into suspension if you dont even track your fucking car.

You obviously have open diff...

1. coils
2. track time
3. tires
4. track time

6. track time
7. seat

9. more tires
10. track time.

10 steps to success.

You can weld your diff at any time for like 20$ at some crappy auto shop. It's not nearly on the level of planning and saving of money that coilovers are.
