according to what i've read, the j30 is the one that has the same bolt pattern as the 240's shafts, so you wont need to swap the entire rear end

I have a 96 base model 240sx and I installed a 95 infinity J-30 diff in my car, just unbolted mine and reinstalled the J30 one, no other mods. It went right in. Your supposed to have to shorten the driveshaft less than an inch, but I didnt bother and it works fine.

the only difference with the S13's is you have to take the cover off of your 240 diff because on S13's its 4 bolt. You just replace the cover on the J30 which is two bolt with the S13 one and bolt the unit into your car. OH yeah I have a 96 J30 VLSD for sale $300 first come first serve.

It 's not that simple. The 5 lug conversion for the rear of our cars comes off late model S14 SE's . The 300zx rear is larger and supposedly does not fit. I have not checked this out myself . It is just what I have heard. Yes 300zx 's came with VLSD and I have one for sale for $250.

let me know what you find out on the 300zx lsd on s13, 'cause i really want a 5 lug set-up w/ LSD, since i'm gonna be going to tracks w/ my friend. and i know 5 lug has better wheel selection and it is better for the track. so UPDATED ME!!!

Not too long since it doesn't require you to rip out your tranny and tear it apart to get it in.

Niseslut opens a can of worms.......
as compared to the Kaaz s13 lsd? can somone compare the j30 and kaaz lsd? is the kaaz worth it?

Well for One Kaaz misleads alot of people. The Kaaz rear end comes needing the ring and pinion installed from your rear end. this much they tell you. thats about 1.5 hours of bench labor to take it out of yours and 2.5 hours to install in the Kaaz because you have to get the lash right or you will blow up your ring gear. Then the big whammy comes. I only found this out recently but apparantly its been happening for awhile. What is the problem you ask. Well the R200 carriers Kaaz is using is not for our cars i.e. it has different output flanges which means you have to go to Nissan and get the output flanges thats another $260. So lets add this up. Kaaz rear end $750 plus tax new output shafts $260 3.5 hours bench labor at lets say $45 an hour thats another $135
$750
$260
$135
total = $1145 plus possible tax and time
J30 rear end bolts right in cost around $300-400
Ok yes mechanical limited slip is better but thats a big price difference . If you want to spend the money go for it.

I've seen J30 diffs as low as $250. This supposedly bolts straight into an S14, and you still have the open diff carrier to sell to someone who blew theirs out (which probably won't happen to most.... ). The real difference is the VLSD won't really fully lock compared to a mechanical diff, but the VLSD will require less maintenance and AFAIK, is quieter and more streetable.
