Quick ? alternator belt shredded and..

My alternator belt shredded and only a thread about as wide as a pencil was left. I understand the battery light flashing but my brake light would flash a split second after battery. Not worried just wondering if that was normal or if I could have some wiring issues.

that should be normal if your alternator belt is wearing out or if your alternator is dying. When my alternator was giving up on me my brake light and battery light stay lit when my car was running. I switch the alternator and the belt cause it was wearing and both light shut off after car started.

The brake light is paralleled to the charge light, so they come on together if there's a charging issue. If it's still on afterwards, check your fluid level.

Also check the tightness of the belt. You might have it too loose and it's slipping thus not rotating the alt. enough. This might be it. Plus you need to re-adjust the tightness after about 500 miles to allow for the break in. The belt will stretch a little and needs to be re-checked.

you really should consider checking the voltage on your car, as well as the brake fluid level. sounds like your charging system could use some repairing.

Thanks guys its fine now. It only did it when half the belt shredded off. I put new belts on and its good now. I'll have to remember in about 500 miles to check it and tighten it. Thanks.
