Question Coolant Resivor Q's

does the bottle or the hose need to be at any certain hight, i.e. above the radiator cap, or below the radiator cap, does the hose have to droop down below the cap level before it goes into the reservoir? does the reservoir need to be any certain capacity or volume? is there a minimum or maximum amount of extra coolant that i should have.

why dont u just get a oem resevoir, mount it, and run the tube from the rad to the resevoir like it was from the factory?

autozone has two different sized ones that both fit and both work. they are like $10.

courtesy nissan has the real thing for substantially more.

they work the same

you need it.

why jury rig something

thats not good. when the coolant gets hot it expands and needs some place to go. otherwise, excess pressure is gonna build up.

"are the potential risks of just not having a reservoir at all?" besides pressure building up and popping the hose or shooting the bolt out through the engine killing me instantly.
if theres no way for the radiator to release pressure, it could burst. the hoses could burst. your cooling system would not be very efficient. i wouldn't worry about trying to make ur own. just get a hold of an OEM reservoir which is already properly sized and what not.

aww. no fun. thanks for all your info but im going to do it my way, stay close to the OEM resivor volume, mount the new tank somewhere out of the way and clean, and have the hose droop down past the radiator cap, thanks ladiesman8527, slownslurious, and Addicted2Kouki.
