Personally I think its only S13Grl thats locking threads, because about 10 or so have been locked by her today. Hence her nickname Nazi Moderator... I guess it cant really be helped, but your question seems legit to be in this section. Maybe because it said OT she locked it? no it wasnt OT...it was completely on topic about 240sx's but seriously. this is the only forum i've seen that doesnt have a OT board. FA, RX7Club, Nopistons, 300zxclub, 240sxforums, clubsi....they all have ot boards. and instead of locking the thread so that the person can get no feedback just move it.

As she explained she is trying to get the boards back to the way they are. The board used to have every topic on topic, but now everyone turned the Chat into an Off Topic. So many posts, but most are off topic. SO I say hooray for S13Grl. Hopefully this sends a message to everyone else. If you go to Fresh Alloy they will bitch at you even more.

This is exactly what my point is. This is the most off-topic 240 board around. yet we have a lot of reputation with owners. Every meet I go to, people just blow zilvia off because of all the off-topic crap that goes on. It's not the way it should be. I'm not saying that everything should be totally stopped, I"m just trying to get a message accross. You all always talk about how there's too much off-topic crap on. There is, and I dont' like being asked why is it that none of the moderators are doing anything about it. Okie, i know there is alot of OT's in here and it does suck alot. But my last post was maybe out of hand cuz i didnt like how the mag degraded the women in it. i totally understand what you are saying. but your missing the point. its not going to stop by just locking the threads. we need a OT catagory added. what can be done to get one? people need some where to go to vent, or have a general question or comment. if the same flaming and locking keeps going on its just going to piss people off and they are going to leave. 75% of the flames are at people who think threads are off topic. ff we had a OT catagory then no one complain that the topic is OT and leaving the general 240 catagory for strictly 240 stuff.

I'm really not sure. That was requested before, but I think that we voted it out b/c of the lack of relativity and the possibility of 240 chat being kind of left alone. Most people just voted for the whole "if you're off-topic, go to off-topic.net". But I don't know if I think it would be a bad idea. Seems that's something we might want if we want to follow the set guidelines fully and correctly.

yeah but the thing is you know that no one wil ever follow th eset guidlines, just look at the post in the tech colum right now, which i basically an FU post, and its in the tech section, i agree that we should ahve a OT forum, but that may just cause more arguments and flame wars about what is OT, and what isnt OT, you see what im saying?

everybody goes to their local pet store, purchases a helper monkey named mojo. now with mojo you can accomplish many things, most importantly increase your IQ. now with a higher IQ, everybody won't be so idiotic. and instead of having absolutely pointless arguments and starting rediculous topics, you can actually have intellectual arguments about such intriguing subjects as.........the spring rates of valve springs, should they be progressive? when you actually become a "non-idiot" you can begin posting again. but for now, the member count should be somewhere around 20.

I agree with Irena. A lot of the socal members kinda dismiss zilvia as a joke forum. It shouldnt be that way. I mean i know there are "tightwad" mods like Alex and Asad on freshalloy.com but it works. People argue there, but the stuff is meaningful.. Their intellectual level has gone beyond the sr vs ka, your mom is...... blah blah, phase. Nonetheless that has been a sucessful forum.

I mean seriously, if we can all just a grow up a bit, act more formal it would help. Keep those BS responses to a minimum, and try to get on track with things. This INCLUDES me, so I will do my best and not just dick around either.

I know it makes it seem boring, but zilvia.net is where 240sx memebers discuss about 240sx's and help eachother, sharing technical information about their cars and giving eachother advice. it wasnt intended for fucking around and posting random off topic posts, about other cars and what not.. (no disrespect, but there are other forums for other cars. ) and lets try to keep it mostly countoured to the concept and keep B.S. posts to a minimum.
Any kind of B.S. takes up bandwidth and space.

yes we need a off-topic forum, I agree, but does anyone want to help mark fund it or maintain it? remember Mark is busting his ass to maintain and provide a free 240sx community.. the least we can do is contribute and work with him..

If you only want to see technical threads (except for a few, unwanted exceptions), go to TECH TALK. I don't see what's so complicated or what all this bickering and locking threads is about. You guys have a OT forum pretty much already set up the way I see it.

tech talk offers technical help. while general discussion, may be instances where people give advice on what to do to their car, or find out some relevant info about are cars.

The last week or so, this place has become moron central. &nbsp;I agree that Zilvia should have a better rep. &nbsp;Like some others, I am an FA refugee. &nbsp;I like the sense of community here. &nbsp;Over there, posting about taking your 240 to a track day or an autox will be moved and locked (unless it's in SoCal - then you can have it pinned and post pictures). &nbsp;I don't like that the intellectual level trumps the idea of fun and commaraderie.

Don't like it leave. &nbsp;Can't stand the heat - get out.

As for OT - I'd note that every car board w/ an OT forum is a complete waste of space. &nbsp;We've got enough assholes around here without inviting them w/ pictures of ricequeens and pot use stories.

I'm perosnally one those who requested MORE moderator involvement. &nbsp;

For the past few months I can't recall any posts being locked, aside from one or two that were way out there. &nbsp;While right now we seem to be a little too sensitive as to what constitutes off topic, we are at least moving in the right direction. &nbsp;I'm sure in a week or two it will settle as people begin to start posting more on topic, and the mods loosen their grip. &nbsp;We ARE reforming, if you don't like it you won't be missed. &nbsp;

Honestly, the 240 community has gone from a small tight knit group to an explosion of new comers who in many cases are moving from other camps or are very young and jumping on the boat after reading one magazine article. &nbsp;Then run around claiming to be SR experts and either posting misinformation or asking a trillion newbie questions that have been answered a trillion times.

Think before you speak, err type and most of this hassle can be avoided.

If you want to see a forum that works well, I think the VWVortex is a perfect example. &nbsp;Of course I'm not sure how it'd translate to the 240SX community, which is smaller and obviously covers a smaller range of cars. &nbsp;If only there was a way to unite the Nissan community entirely like that, instead of having >5 different big Z-car forums, 3 different big 240SX forums (not to mention a lot more international S-chassis forums), Sentra/SR20DE forums, 510 forums...

The reason we tell you to search, or at least I do is usually two fold:

1- it was answered last year, last week, yesterday, and five minutes ago. &nbsp;Go to page 2 and you'll find your answer

2- you will find more answers in the search and be able to formulate a more intellectual question once you get past reading through the most basic of answers. &nbsp;FAQ is usually a good spot as well since it includes mostly correct information on common posts.

If I had to make this a three part answer, the other reason I will reply with search is to answer a vague question. &nbsp;Something like "what tires should I get", tells me the person doesn't know much about tires. &nbsp;Variables left to be answered include, price, performance, number seasons needed, tread wear, will they be used for competition, etc, even before a valid answer can be made. &nbsp;I'll recomend some Kuhmo 712's but that won't work if you need some 60000mile all season tires.
