Product Development: 2-piece 300ZX rear rotors?
DISCLAIMER: I am not a vendor, I do not sell parts commercially, I do not work for the company mentioned below. I can offer general answers but any technical inquiries should be directed elsewhere. This is post is intended to obtain information only and I have no intention of making money off of the idea below. All I want is more cool parts for the s-chassis.
I've inquired with Racingbrake.com about the possibility of new rear 300ZX rotors. Rear 3Z brakes are pretty much the standard these days, as it's cheap and easy. Now that we know STi rear brembo calipers also work with 300ZX rotors, we have yet another option to go to...but with newer and better calipers, why not more rotor options? You could go bigger rotor, but then you'd lose the e-brake, which some of us still use (we don't all still live in the Davis flatlands). I've looked around for options, but outside of random replacements from autoparts stores or ebay specials or even "brembo" rotors..the alternative is to go JDM TYTE and get some Endless stuff. Where's the in-between? So here's what they'd be: ![]() Pricing can be found on their website, but as a random example (don't hold me to this, I do not represent them in any way), their rotors for the 350Z brembo fronts are $240 each right now on sale ($280 normal). Before some idiot brings it up, these would not be the same as the cross-drilled or slotted (or both) rotors you see on ebay for $50/set or whatever. |

i bet if you slap a JDM sticker on it, some idoit WILL buy it.
Other then that, cool design. Would be great if your that baller that can afford this. And let me ask this stupid question, what makes this 2Piece rotor better then your normal 1Piece brembos..other then weight. |

The internally curved vanes are supposed to provide a better cooling effect. Also, instead of buying new rotors, u can just buy the outter part (contact surface) and re-use the center mounting hat.
And I certainly would not say most people *need* these, but for those that actually do drive their cars on the track but aren't say...sponsored by a shop or happen to have a nice salary from a tech company, this would be great to have. The 4 pot rears from Endless or Project Mu or whatever are overkill (a couple grand for rear brakes alone?, then you get the 6 pot fronts, heheh....ouch) unless you have a JGTC car. blank rotors would be what, $50/pair? x-drilled/slotted...$50-100 depending on the brand ... ... ... project mu, 4 figures. I think there should be something in between would be practical, especially since u keep the 3z calipers if u already have 'em or can even go STi rear if you're planning on doin it in the future |

Who said anything about e-brake power?
The purpose of these rotors is cooling. Even stock brakes might hold up for a lap or two, but when you have good tires and you're out there much longer and later in the day, you don't really want brake fade from heat. |

so STi rear rotors are the same as z32 rear rotors? aren't z32 rotors 297mm or something? RB says 316mm for rear STi rotors. if the outer diameter is the only difference, we could use the same hats and use different discs. or even just turn down the STi discs (both 20mm, right?)
how does the drum-in-hat parking brake work with that hat? i'm not saying it won't, just that i've seen 2 piece rotor hats that are meant to have a DIH parking brake and those don't look like them. nevermind, here's a better pic of the STi parts. ![]() ![]() i'd be all for this if i wasn't selling my car and there were matching fronts.

Sti rear brakes:
http://www.zilvia.net/f/showpost.php...&postcount=237 Sti rear brembos fit over 300zx rear rotors thereby allowing you to retain the 300zx drum e-brake The 300zx rotors are 2mm thinner than Sti rear rotors. Presumably you could just run normal sti pads or get something custom made, it shouldn't be too ridiculous for a pad company to give you an extra mm on each side to avoid problems. if u want matching fronts...racingbrake already has 2pc rotors for the 350z brembo fronts, so you can either run the brembos from 350z or get the SPL or CosmoRacing adapter braket and use 30mm 3z brakes (which i'm doing, since they are way lighter calipers...and cheaper too) |

hmmm... i've already got an upgraded system that works. seems like too much work and money for little gain from what i've got now. i don't want to swap the caliper just so i can swap the rotor. not to mention that post only says the STi caliper works with z32 rotors. we have no idea if the STi hats will work with the z32 parking brake, and the discs certainly won't work. we should get something to work with the z32 caliper and if people want to use it in the way described in the link you posted, they can.
RB offers a mustang cobra rear in 296x18. the STi hat should bolt up to the cobra rotor, now the question is if it will bolt onto the car. we seem to be trading posts, if i was at home, i'd IM you. if you're still on when i get home, i'll hit you up and try to come up with a solution.

What the...
I'm not sure what's the confusing part here Use: STi Caliper STi pads 300ZX rear rotor 300ZX e-brake stuff E-brake works, replace cheapshit 300zx rotors with Racingbrake rotors, use Sti calipers, and have more braking power, more cooling, functional parking brake. I do not know why you refer to STi hats since you are retaining 300zx rear rotors which obviously do work with 300zx e-brake hardware u do not need to swap the rotor, that would defeat the benefit of sti calipers. |

OptionZero,
Did the actually produce a 2 piece 300zx rear rotor or are they going to? Anyway I would buy these for sure. Pricey? yes. but so were my front STI brembos, Evo 2piece rotors, adapter bracket, new engine and trans and....... CDlong, the STI rears do not work for our rears without major modification. you can use the STI rear brembos on the 300zx rear rotors (yes that was me that posted it) and that way keep e-brake. Optionzero, if you got a contact already at racing brake, what they need to make that would be perfect is : Evo sized rotor matched with same offset as the evo rear rotors with a 300zx compatible inner diameter hat so the e-brake will work. in simple term: 2 piece evo rotor with i.d to match 300zx e-brake assembly. No thicker pads, perfect fit! and they can sell it as a rear upgrade for 240sx. |

first of all, it's unlikely that racing brake will produce a unique setup for an old car that they don't even have front rotors for. it's even less likely for a cobbled together setup from several different cars. our best bet is to get their existing parts to work together in a new way to work for us. if there are minimal changes, they may start marketing it as a 300zx kit (which will obviously work on our cars).
fyi, the two piece rotors with a DIH parking brake use a cast iron hat so the weight savings is minimal. Quote:
the STi disc is too big to use with either caliper on a nissan so we can use the cobra disc since it's the right size for the z32 caliper or evo disc with the brembo caliper. the only issues we need to cover are if a hat they produce (STi or otherwise) will give us the right offset and inner diameter and depth for the parking brake Quote:
whatever, i'm on my way home, i'll im you.

what needs to be modified? the braking surface clearly won't work, but is the parking brake part the same? how about some details?

cdlong: READ THIS
Quote:
JohnC: I do not have a contact per se, I just posted in their forum and got a favorable response. See below... http://forums.racingbrake.com/showthread.php?t=198 And for cdlong: With our advanced brake technology and resources we shall be able to design and build a rear brake upgrade to meet your expectation in performance and price. We can also make a thinner pad to fit the caliper if necessary. |

That is super ligit and anyone looking for amazing braking performance should buy those......Any chance of a weight compared to stock?
If I had 300zx setup (or even a 240 still, rx7 4eva) I would be pawning everything for these

after rereading the thread, i was confused at the beginning about how the STi caliper upgrade worked. but now i see it just boils down to a straight two piece z32 rotor so let's just focus on that.
but really option, calm down, i can read, hence the post right above yours where i asked for more information about the STi rotors. i was looking for more information about if the hats will work or not. i understand that the STi calipers work, but it's a moot point since they both work with the same rotor (this is a discussion about rotors, right?) my point is that we might be able to help them along by offering suggestions and detail. if we say 'make a hat just like the STi hat but 2mm larger centerbore and use the mustang discs' they may say 'sure, can you pick them up tomorrow?' can we find some dimension on the z32 parking brake and possibly some for other systems they already produce (evo, STi, G/Z)? the Brembo calipers swap around fairly easily, why not the other parts too? if nothing else, it at least makes the engineering easier. to be honest, for an established company, how much noise there is on the internet doesn't really matter. they're there to make money, if the expense is too high or the market is too small they won't do it.

You haven't really read the thread then, since racingbrake said they'd already be *able* to do it for near the price of their existing products. All that's left is for some people to ask for it.
They already make 300zx one-piece rotors, they don't need us to tell us dimensions. You should re-read JohnC's thread instead of posting here, since all you've done is add confusion and express doubt that it racingbrake would even do it (Despite their own statement to the contrary). You're bringing in mustang discs and sti's hats when johnc has already done the hard work by finding a better caliper, and now i'm telling people there's a better rotor out there to be had. Shit, is it any wonder you're frustrating? |

I have Racingbrake rotors all around. Got them for a steal cause he refuses to advertise and thinks word of mouth like this forum posting will spread the word. $240 is a crazy mark up from his dealer cost...

Not for the rear z32 according to that link; you can see the prices yourself for the ones they do make. Quote:
Interesting. So I assume you mean you got them somewhere other than racingbrake direct? |

Optionzero, Great post on their forum! got their attention :-).
I will post on that thread too. Thanks. wootwoot, I have weighed my front Evo 2-piece rotors from girodisc and they are 3.8lb lighter than stock evo rotors. Now we can have a 300zx 2piece rear rotor and save another 3+lbs per rear wheel in the back that would be awesome. S14db, as optionzero asked I would also like to know if possible and which brakes you got. As for biot, nearly 1K for rotors b4 shipping and import taxes (at least for me) that is crazy. |

They are a knock off of the Brembo locking ring. I have no problems with them. They work great. I just don't like the man's no advertising, word of mouth / free ride style of promotion and won't support anything he does.
If you really want to get the best out of this. Someone needs to get a dealer account from him and then sell for 10% over cost to Zilvia. His retail mark up is a joke.
