I went to get my car inspected and was promptly turned down when the dealer said I had an exhaust leak which need fixing first.

This morning I went to get the leak fixed and found that the exhaust was cracked on both end welds of my resonator on my 3" Blitz Realize TT catback exhaust. Rather than replacing it with a straight pipe, I replaced it a hi-flow glass packed resonator. We also noticed that the exhaust had a slight crack on the weld at the monster muffler as well which was repaired.

Once we fired up the engine to check for leaks, we noticed that the car REALLY purred...and actually sounded better than before. But *I* noticed while driving was that the car actually ran a little better and idled better as well.

Can a leaky exhaust have such a LARGE affect on the car's performance?

I would think it could have a big effect. For the only reason that you're running O2 sensors and other kinds of emissions crap that will get faulty readings if a certain amount of flow isn't coming down the pipe. If the O2 isn't getting enough exhaust to meter correctly it will throw off the mixture.

On my 81 Honda, the exhaust leaks like crazy. Got it out of the junkyard. Cost=nothing. However, the 81 EK1 engines without O2 sensors don't have ECUs, so it doesn't make a hoot of difference. However, running it open manifold does. Loud as shit for one, no torque for another. Really pisses people off. Hehehehe.

Ugh. I have an exhaust leak at the cat and on my muffler.
I would fix it, but a new cat is who-knows how much and a stock muffler is $200!
The only thing that bothers me is that I sound like a ricer when accelerating. Someone shoot me

Repairing the cracks plus the cost of the resonator was only $60!!! The guys that worked on my car did an A-1 job as well. Best money I ever spent on the car.
