Won't go into reverse

My brother has a stock 98 240sx se 5spd and I drove it fine for about 10 minutes I park it, come back out to drive it and it won't go into reverse. I have the clutch all the way to the floor and everything. All the other gears work perfectly. What could the problem possibly be?

yeah we've been trying to force it in. I'm kind of scared because it's not my car, and I was the last to drive it.

Try shifting into first and then try putting it into reverse. The reverse gear has no synchros, so putting it in first will let it glide into reverse easier. You couldn't have possibly done any damage by just driving it 10 minutes.

This works, or just let the car roll a little then stop and try again. My reverse is stubborn too.

I sometimes have to fiddle with mine to get it in, I just slide it in first and it goes right into reverse after.

Don't worry, you didn't fuck up anything.

I tried to put it in first then reverse but it's still not going, so if I did break a spring in the clutch how much is it to fix?

When you shift a manual transmission into reverse, what you're doing is sliding an idler gear between two gears on the mainshaft and the countershaft in the gearbox. Sometimes the tooth on the idler gear will not line up with the tooth on the mainshaft and/or the countershaft gear, so that's what's happening. As previously mentioned, either putting the transmission into 1st or rolling the car a bit before putting it into reverse will help realign the tooth. I doubt you messed up the car.

try shiftin to 4th then reverse
or turn off car and put it in reverse then start up
not so often does a 240sx tranny decide not to go into reverse.
if it were to be clutch clutch disc cost around 50 bucks
100 for a whole daikin exedy with throw out if you noe where to shop!

Exactly as everyone said, mine does it too, just play with it, or put a little muscle into it, or put it in first then into reverse...
