Me and my friend installed a J30 vlsd in my base s14 took us about 2 and 1/2 hrs to install without any problems the piece fit right in so anyone with an S14 you dont have to shorten your driveshaft or change the guts from the j30 unit to your old unit and i feel the difference thank god it wasnt a waste!!!

Awesome. . I've got a 97 240 LE (hehe no ABS or VLSD) But I've got the 97 J30 VLSD kickin around on my garage floor...  Reason I'm taking so long to install... hehe. . it was missing one of the bushings on the front part of it.  (Where the bolt goes through to mount it to the body) I ordered one, but I'm not sure if it's right... Did you have any problems like that?

Also.... How much and what weight / brand of oil did you use?  Thanks!

I have done the EXACT same install as HOT240 (same year J30 into a base s14).  Easy as hell eh?  I used Redline 75W90 Gear Oil (synthetic of course).  I wanna try 80W90 next time and see if there is a difference.  I am guessing there isn't gonna be a whole lot different.  Took 1.5 quarts or so.

That's cool, that's the first major thing I want to do to my 95SE, no ABS or LSD. I am hoping I can pick one up at a pick n' pull where I would only pay like $25 for it.

i did an install on an s13 and it went very good,  i bought the silvia vlsd and half shafts from jspec.com for $420 shipped.  I had to rebuild one of the half shafts and that was easy too.  THe install was pretty simple, email me at [email protected] if you want some pics of it.
