I have an S13 with 86k on it. It's been too long since its last oil change so I'm gonan do it within the next few days. What weight should i put in? I live in north carolina so the temps here in the winter will never be lower than about 10F and thats the LOWEST it will go. Thanks guys!

Mobil-1 trisynthetic all the way, probably a standard 10w-30 in the winter, and i use a 15W-50 during the hot summers and at the track where the heavier weight holds up better under high stress situations, it seems like most people at the track run mobil-1, i've used it for the last 3 years, i also use their synthetic gear oil, i'm sure there are other good oils out there, i just like Mobil-1, and so do lots of professional race teams, whatever you do, don't use penzoil, it's junk

The heavier/thicker the weight the better it will stand up in high stress conditions. Think of it as water vs. maple syrup. On the opposite side of things I use a 5w-30 in the harsh minnesota winters. It's much thinner and while it doesn't do as well in heat, it flows better and quicker to then engine on startup, where most of the damage is done. I'm not going to say go ahead and use the "race oil" but i'm guessing it would be ok under the right conditions. |
