can you figure out what side of the engine?
if it's the front...timing chain. Either the chain is needing to be changed, or one of the chain guides are about to break. The usual suspect is the upper chain guide. If it's the top one....take it off...you don't need it, and Nissan agrees. what year is your 240? do a search on this forum and freshalloy for timing chain rattle. if it's in the back, it'll either be tranny, or that "bolt" for the clutch...I cannot for the life of me think of the name for that bolt right now....grrr....um...oh well..I give up...someone else knows... if it's on the right side...it's probably just the heat shield rattling aginst the manifold...take it off and see if it stops. if it's on the left side....hmm....there shouldn't be anything there to rattle. if it's not on the sides, and it sounds like the engine...that's most likely trouble. take it to a mechanic. hope this helps a little. |
