SR20DET.What milage do you have?

How many miles do you got on your SR20DET? How many miles where on it when you first got it?

I just got my SR20DET installed and it had 75k miles on it. I remember a couple of years ago, all SR20DET's had 30k to 40k max on them and they were way cheaper too.

just wanna know what mileage you started off with and how you got on it now.

does anyone know the longevity of SR20's?

A couple years ago, motors still had high mileage on them and the prices were the same. An SR20 will last as long as you want it to so long as you change the oil and filter frequent enough and put good gas in your car.

Mine had 75k miles on it when it arrived IIRC and it now has over 125k and no signs of major problems. And I can be hard on this car at times.

its easier to really know your mileage if you bought a front clip but depends if you have a cluster or not.

I brought mine back with 92,xxx km and it ran great. I know it was abused before I got it due to buying from a guy that drifted his silvia into a rock.

no.

fail.

the only way to know what the real milage is if you buy a car that has been serviced all its life since day one at the dealership with all of the service records, where the milage is recorded every time it comes in for a service.

you know how easy it is to get a low milage cluster from yahoo auctions japan?

answer: very easy.

As long as mine still runs I could care less how many miles it has on it.

It's important that it just runs and runs fine.

I was working at a shop when I got mine, so I got choice of the container... I got a "29k KM" redtop (the shipper was the one that cut the car, wrote his own shipping labels, and the label matched the motor) that had 155-155-155-154 compression numbers... I don't know if I believe the mileage rating, but I surely do believe compression/leakdown numbers.

Consensus is that if has good compression and leakdown, and an undented/unmolested oil pan, it's a good motor. If the tranny shifts well, and doesn't pop out of gear, it's a good tranny. If your wiring harness is uncut and works on first start, you got a good harness/ecu.

Buy from someone the community trusts, and don't read too much into anything else.

my sr had 3,000 km on it. Complete build by HKS. Was just broken in. Friend had it built in Japan, he left and sold me the car/motor.

have put about 12k miles on it now. starts up and idles perfectly every time, even running on US 93 octane.

The only reason it would be good to know the mileage is for major maintenance purposes like water pump, oil pump and timing chain. Although it never hurts to do this stuff before the swap.

I have a feeling that I will be replacing my oil pump and timing chain soon.

An odometer won't tell you if the motor has been swapped....

Here's the run down on Japanese car owners and enthusiasts mentality...

Oil changes are unheard of
Expermentation and DIY is king, the cheaper you can accomplish your goal the better.

Tear the motor apart when you buy it and don't believe anything someone tells you about that motor.

every vendor will tell you 30k or less.

there are two things i can't stress enough. one posted already about swaps, the other is, 30k km is an un-godly ammount of "hours". 30k miles/km may not seem like much, but in the tokyo area (that i have experience with), it may take you 5 hours to get 20-30km.

put some thought into that as well.

but the vendors lie. if you get a gauge cluster with your clip, i'd give it about 75% chance of being correct. if it's missing, or the motor looks abused etc it's going to be more and they are making shit up to sell. works.

when i got my motor from japanmotorimport.com it said low miles...so when i called and asked what was the mileage on them they said "oohh around 30k-50k"...i was like "hmm oookk" while in my mind i said bullshit...i knew for a fact it wasnt cause ive heard so many times its never at that mileage range, even in the past...so when it finally came it looked like it wasn't 30k-50k lol...see for yourself:

looks like it was sitting in the rain for awhile lol...but i cleaned it all up and it runs like a champ
