too much gasoline being pumped in.
Your engine isn't burning  all the gas (running rich ?) so some of it comes out with the exhaust.
Do you rev the engine or pump the pedal when you start it?  This may cause it.  Could also be a slight leak somewhere in the fuel system.
If its only at start up, I wouldn't worry too much.
Have someone rev the car in neutral after its been running for a few minutes, if you still smell gas, then I'd worry.

Disclaimer:  I am not a mechanic, nor do I claim to be an expert on, well, anything.
If you are worried about it, have a mechanic or the dealship look at it.  They should charge very much just to take a look at it.
